Introduction

"You have quite a treasure there in that Horadric Cube..." - Deckard Cain

The Horadric Cube is a relic of a bygone era that allows for amazing transmutations to create items of your wildest dreams. Using specific combinations of items you'll find along your travels you can create wondrous Crafted Items, repair and recharge your gear, and combine necessary quest items into their legendary artifacts. The recipes listed below can greatly empower anyone from the beginning of Act 2 in Normal, all the way to the super end game. The Cube can be used to condense the power of Runes and Gems into their stronger counterparts. See our attached guides for each.


Mechanics

  • The Horadric Cube has an internal size of 4 x 3 (height by width). This means some recipes are naturally exclusive to certain item types which can fit inside with the required materials.
  • Each recipe specifies items which must be placed in the Horadric Cube together and Transmuted to create the desired item.
  • Unless otherwise stated by the recipe, any properties of the item created are randomly generated similarly to if the item were dropped in the wild by a monster or clickable object.
  • Items created either have a set Item Level (iLVL) upon creation, or calculate the iLVL according to the recipe and Character Level (cLVL) of the Character that clicks "Transmute".
  • Items can be safely stored inside the Cube for additional inventory space. Do NOT hit the "Transmute" button if you don't intend to craft with these items!

Recipes

Quests / Secret Cow Level / Ubers

The Horadric Staff

1 x Staff of Kings + 1 x Amulet of the Viper = Horadric Staff

Create the necessary item to place within the Orifice and enter Duriel's Chamber in Act 2.


Khalim's Will

1 x khalim'sflail + 1 x khalim'sbrain + 1 x khalim'sheart + 1 x khalim'seye = khalim'swill

Create the necessary item to break the Orb of Control and enter the Durance of Hate level 1.


The Secret Cow Level

1 x wirt'sleg + 1 x Tome of Town Portal = The Secret Cow Level Portal

When you transmute the necessary items together in Act 1 Rogue Encampment, it opens a portal to The Secret Cow Level. The Character must have completed the Baal Quest in the Difficulty the wirt'sleg is acquired in. This recipe doesn't work if the player successfully completes the Cow King Quest (the Cow King is killed by the Character or a partied team member)


Portal to Mini Ubers

1 x keyofterror + 1 xkeyofhate + 1 xkeyofdestruction = Red Portal to Furnace of Pain / Matron's Den / Forgotten Sands

When you transmute the necessary items together in Hell Act 5 Harrogath, it opens a portal to one of the three Mini Uber areas. Furnace of Pain has Uber Izual, Matron's Den has Lillith, and Forgotten Sands has Uber Duriel. You'll need to best all three to get the Organs necessary to open the Portal to Uber Tristram. The Area is selected randomly, so opening all three portals in one game is the safest way to make sure you can face all three Mini Ubers.


Portal to Uber Tristram

1 x diablo'shorn + 1 x mephisto'sbrain + 1 x baal'seye = Red Portal to Uber Tristram

When you transmute the necessary items together in Hell Act 5 Harrogath, it opens a portal to Uber Tristram, where you face Uber Mephisto, Uber Diablo, and Uber Baal. If you manage to kill all three, you're rewarded with a hellfiretorch.


Socketing Base Items

Add Sockets to a Body Armor

1 x Normal/Ethereal Body Armor (Mage Plate) + 1 x talrune + 1 x thulrune + 1 x perfecttopaz = Mage Plate

This recipe can be used to randomly add Sockets to a Normal/Ethereal unsocketed Body Armor, capped to the maximum Sockets the Body Armor can have. It can’t be used on Low-quality or Superior bases.
*Ethereal Bugging or E-Bugging: If this Cube recipe is used on an Ethereal Item, the new item gains an additional 50% Defense value modifier. This is a way to get massive Defense values on gear, especially useful for Mercenaries.

Add Sockets to a Weapon

Can be used to add 1-6 Sockets, randomly, to a Normal/Ethereal unsocketed Weapon. Cannot be used on Low-quality or Superior bases.

Add Sockets to a Helm

Can be used to add 1-3 Sockets, randomly, to a Normal/Ethereal unsocketed Helm. Cannot be used on Low-quality or Superior bases.

Remove Gems, Jewels, and Runes from Socketed items

1 x Any Socketed Item (Spirit Crystal Sword) + 1 x helrune + 1 x scrolloftownportal = Crystal Sword

This removes any items placed inside the sockets of a base item. This destroys the Gems, Jewels or Runes in the item permanently, and you cannot use them again. The socketed item is unchanged in the process, and new items can be placed in its sockets.


Upgrading Uniques

Upgrade the base of a Normal Unique Weapon to the Exceptional base

1 x Normal base Unique Weapon (Rixot's Keen) + 1 x ralrune + 1 x solrune + 1 x perfectemerald = Rixot's Keen Gladius

Upgrade a Normal base Unique Weapon to the Exceptional base of the same Unique Weapon. This does not change the item to the Exceptional base's Unique Weapon. (i.e. Rixot's Keen becomes Rixot's Keen Gladius) If the item was Ethereal, it remains Ethereal. Any sockets, or socketed Gems / Jewels, remain in the item.


Upgrade the base of a Normal Unique Armor to the Exceptional base

1 x Normal base Unique Armor (Greyform) + 1 x talrune + 1 x shaelrune + 1 x perfectdiamond = Greyform Ghost Armor

Upgrade a Normal base Unique Armor to the Exceptional base of the same Unique Armor. This does not change the item to the Exceptional base's Unique Armor. (i.e. Greyform becomes Greyform Ghost Armor) If the item was Ethereal, it remains Ethereal. Any sockets, or socketed Gems / Jewels remain in the item.


Upgrade the base of an Exceptional Unique Weapon to the Elite base

1 x Exceptional base Unique Weapon (Spellsteel Bearded Axe) + 1 x lumrune + 1 x pulrune + 1 x perfectemerald = Spellsteel Silver-edged Axe

Upgrade an Exceptional base Unique Weapon to the Elite base of the same Unique Weapon. This does not change the item to the Elite base's Unique Weapon. (i.e. Spellsteel Bearded Axe becomes Spellsteel Silver-edged Axe) If the item was Ethereal, it remains Ethereal. Any sockets, or socketed Gems / Jewels remain in the item.


Upgrade the base of an Exceptional Unique Armor to the Elite base

1 x Exceptional base Unique Armor (Snowclash Battle Belt) + 1 x korune + 1 x lemrune + 1 x perfectdiamond = Snowclash Troll Belt

Upgrade an Exceptional base Unique Armor to the Elite base of the same Unique Armor. This does not change the item to the Elite base's Unique Armor. (i.e. Snowclash Battle Belt becomes Snowclash Troll Belt) If the item was Ethereal, it remains Ethereal. Any sockets, or socketed Gems / Jewels, remain in the item.


Rare Items

Add 1 Socket to a Rare Item

3 x Perfectskull + 1 x thestoneofjordan + 1 x Rare Item (Rare Circlet) = Rare Circlet

Add 1 Socket to a Rare item which can have sockets, and does not currently have any sockets.


New Rare Item of the Same Type (Higher iLVL)

1 x Perfectskull + 1 x thestoneofjordan + 1 x Rare Item (Old Rare Circlet) = New Rare Circlet

Used to "Reroll" a Rare Base Item. The iLVL of the resulting item is: iLVL = int(0.66 * cLVL) + int(0.66 * iLVL)


New Rare Item of the Same Type (Lower iLVL)

6 x Perfectskull + 1 x Rare Item (Old Rare Circlet) = New Rare Circlet

Used to "Reroll" a Rare Base Item. The iLVL of the resulting item is: iLVL = int(0.4 * cLVL) + int(0.4 * iLVL)
Only items with size <= 3 x 2 dimensions.


Upgrade the base of a Normal Rare Weapon to the Exceptional base

1 x Normal base Rare Weapon (Rare Short Sword) + 1 x ortrune + 1 x amnrune + 1 x perfectsapphire = Rare Gladius

Upgrade a Normal base Rare Weapon to the Exceptional base of the same Rare Weapon. If the item was Ethereal, it remains Ethereal. Any sockets, or socketed Gems / Jewels, remain in the item.


Upgrade the base of a Normal Rare Armor to the Exceptional base

1 x Normal base Rare Armor (Rare Leather Armor) + 1 x ralrune + 1 x thulrune + 1 x perfectamethyst = Rare Serpentskin Armor

Upgrade a Normal base Rare Armor to the Exceptional base of the same Rare Armor. If the item was Ethereal, it remains Ethereal. Any sockets, or socketed Gems / Jewels, remain in the item.


Upgrade the base of an Exceptional Rare Weapon to the Elite base

1 x Exceptional base Rare Weapon (Rare Gladius) + 1 x falrune + 1 x umrune + 1 x perfectsapphire = Rare Falcata

Upgrade an Exceptional base Rare Weapon to the Elite base of the same Rare Weapon. If the item was Ethereal, it remains Ethereal. Any sockets, or socketed Gems / Jewels, remain in the item.


Upgrade the base of an Exceptional Rare Armor to the Elite base

1 x Exceptional base Rare Armor (Rare Serpentskin Armor) + 1 x korune + 1 x pulrune + 1 x perfectamethyst = Rare Wyrmhide

Upgrade an Exceptional base Rare Armor to the Elite base of the same Rare Armor. If the item was Ethereal, it remains Ethereal. Any sockets, or socketed Gems / Jewels, remain in the item.


Repair Items

Fully Repair a Weapon

1 x Any Weapon (Short Sword) + 1 x ortrune = Short Sword

Fully repairs the Durability of any Weapon type. (This includes Runewords, Uniques, Rares etc.) Ethereal Weapons cannot be repaired with this recipe.


Fully Repair an Armor

1 x Any Armor (Quilted Armor) + 1 x Ralrune = Quilted Armor

Fully repairs the Durability of any Armor type. (This includes Runewords, Uniques, Rares etc.) Ethereal Armors cannot be repaired with this recipe.


Fully Repair and Recharge a Weapon

1 x Any Weapon (Viper Barb Short Sword) + 1 x ortrune + 1 x Chipped Gem (any type) = Viper Barb Short Sword

Fully repairs the Durability and replenishes any Charges of any Weapon type. (This includes Runewords, Uniques, Rares etc.) Ethereal Weapons cannot be repaired or recharged with this recipe.


Fully Repair and Recharge an Armor

1 x Any Armor (Arachnid Mesh) + 1 x ralrune + 1 x Chipped Gem (any type) = Arachnid Mesh

Fully repairs the Durability and replenishes any Charges of any Armor type. (This includes Runewords, Uniques, Rares etc.) Ethereal Armor cannot be repaired or recharged with this recipe.


Magic Items

New Random Magic Item of the Same Type

3 x Perfect Gems (any quality) + 1 x Any Magic Item (Grand Charm of Life) = Lion Branded Grand Charm of Vita

Creates a new Magic item of the same type. The iLVL of the resulting item is the same iLVL of the original item. The Affixes are randomly generated according to the Affix Level (aLVL) of the resulting item.


Random Magic Amulet

3 x Ring = Amulet

Creates an Amulet. The iLVL of the resulting item is calculated as follows: iLVL = int(0.75 * cLVL)


Random Magic Ring

3 x Amulet = Ring

Creates a Ring. The iLVL of the resulting item is calculated as follows: iLVL = int(0.75 * cLVL)


Prismatic Amulet (All Resistances +16-20)

6 x Perfect Gems (any quality) + 1 x Amulet = Prismatic Amulet

Creates a Prismatic Amulet with iLVL = 50. The resulting Amulet can also roll a Suffix.


Jade Ring (Poison Resistance 21-30%)

1 x Ring + 1 x Perfectemerald + 1 x Antidote Potion = Jade Ring

Creates a Jade Ring with iLVL = 30. The resulting Ring can also roll a Suffix.


Garnet Ring (Fire Resistance 21-30%)

1 x Ring + 1 x Perfectruby + 1 x Exploding Potion = Garnet Ring

Creates a Garnet Ring with iLVL = 30. The resulting Ring can also roll a Suffix.


Coral Ring (Lightning Resistance 21-30%)

1 x Ring + 1 x Perfecttopaz + 1 x Rejuvenation Potion = Coral Ring

Creates a Coral Ring with iLVL = 30. The resulting Ring can also roll a Suffix.


Cobalt Ring (Cold Resistance 21-30%)

1 x Ring + 1 x Perfectsapphire + 1 x Thawing Potion = Cobalt Ring

Creates a Cobalt Ring with iLVL = 30. The resulting Ring can also roll a Suffix.


Sword of the Leech(4-5% Life Stolen Per Hit)

4 x healingpotion (any quality) + 1 x ruby (any quality) + 1 x Magic Sword (Short Sword) = Short Sword of the Leech

Create an iLVL = 30 Sword with the suffix "of the Leech" (4-5% Life Stolen Per Hit). The Base of the Item is retained. A Prefix can roll on the item as well.


Shield of Spikes (Attacker Takes Damage of 4-6)

1 x Magic Shield (Small Shield) + 1 x Barbed Club + 2 x Skulls (any quality) = Small Shield of Spikes

Creates a Magic Shield of Spikes with iLVL = 30. "of Spikes" Suffix adds Attacker Takes Damage of 4-6. The resulting Shield can also roll a Prefix. The type of shield is retained, this includes Paladin and Necromancer shields.


Savage Polearm (66-80% Enhanced Damage)

1 x Diamond (any quality) + 1 x Short Staff (any Staff, type or quality) + 1 x Kris (any quality) + 1 x Belt (any quality) = Savage Scythe

Creates a Savage Polearm type weapon with iLVL = 50. Savage Prefix adds 66-80% Enhanced Damage. The resulting Polearm can also roll a Prefix. The Polearm bases that are available as a result include every Normal and Exceptional base except Bec-de-Corbin and Grim Scythe.


Socketed Magic Weapon (of the same type)

3 x Standard Gems (any type) + 1 x Normal Socketed Weapon (Short Sword) = Socketed Short Sword

Creates a Socketed Magic Weapon with iLVL = 30. It spawns with 1-2 sockets. The type of weapon is retained, but its original properties are removed (re-rolled). The resulting weapon can also roll a Prefix and a Suffix.


Socketed Magic Weapon (of the same type) iLVL = 25

3 x Chipped Gems (any type) + 1 x Magic Weapon (Short Sword) = Socketed Short Sword

Creates a Socketed Magic Weapon with iLVL = 25. It spawns with 1-2 sockets. The type of weapon is retained, but its original properties are removed (re-rolled). The resulting weapon can also roll a Prefix and a Suffix.
For weapons without sockets (i.e. Javelin), it creates a new Javelin without sockets.


Socketed Magic Weapon (of the same type) iLVL = 30

3 x Flawless Gems (any type) + 1 x Magic Weapon (Short Sword) = Socketed Short Sword

Creates a Socketed Magic Weapon with iLVL = 30. It spawns with 1-2 sockets. The type of weapon is retained, but its original properties are removed (rerolled). The resulting weapon can also roll a Prefix and a Suffix. For weapons without sockets (i.e. Javelin), it creates a new Javelin without sockets.


Base Item Quality

Normal Quality Weapon (of the same type) iLVL = 1

1 x Low-quality Weapon (Crude Katar) + 1 x eldrune + 1 x Chipped Gem (any type) = Katar

Creates a Normal Quality Weapon out of a Low-quality Weapon (i.e. Crude Katar) and sets the iLVL = 1 regardless of the base item's iLVL. Any Item properties are removed (re-rolled).


Normal Quality Armor (of the same type) iLVL = 1

1 x Low-quality Armor (Crude Quilted Armor) + 1 x elrune + 1 x Chipped Gem (any type) = Quilted Armor

Creates a Normal Quality Armor out of a Low-quality Armor(i.e. Crude Quilted Armor) and sets the iLVL = 1 regardless of the base item's iLVL. Any Item properties are removed (rerolled).


Gems

Upgrading Gem Type (Chipped - Perfect)

chippedskull -> flawedskull -> skull -> flawlessskull -> perfectskull

Used for any Gem type in the game including Skulls to upgrade to the next Gem quality. Requires 3 of the same quality and same Gem to upgrade.
Tip: Cubing up to Flawless quality and then activating a Gem Shrine is a more effective way of mass-producing Perfect Gems.

Creates a Full Rejuvenation Potion.


Antidote Potion

1 x Strangling Gas Potion + 1 x healingpotion (any quality) = Antidote Potion

Creates an Antidote Potion.


Misc

1 tokenofabsolution

1 x twistedessenceofsuffering + 1 x chargedessenceofhatred + 1 x burningessenceofterror + 1 x festeringessenceofdestruction = tokenofabsolution

Creates a tokenofabsolution which grants the Character a respec when activated in your inventory. The Essences are dropped from Andariel, Duriel, Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal.
Note: After your three free respecs from The Den of Evil Quest reward, these are the ONLY way to respec your character.


1 Quiver of Arrows

2 x Bolts = Arrows

Creates a quiver of Arrows with a random quantity up to the maximum in one stack.


1 Quiver of Bolts

2 x Arrows = Bolts

Creates a quiver of Bolts with a random quantity up to the maximum in one stack.


1 Stack of Javelin

1 x Spear (any type or quality) + 1 x Arrows = Javelin

Creates a Javelin with a random quantity up to the maximum in one stack.


1 Stack of Throwing Axe

1 x Axe (any type or quality) + 1 x Dagger (any type or quality) = Throwing Axe

Creates a Throwing Axe with a random quantity up to the maximum in one stack.
