Introduction

This article guides you through the full campaign of Diablo 2 Resurrected. While the story is straight-forward in most places, there are some Quest Logs that are not exactly 100% clear or are missing information on how to get to your target.


Full Story Walkthrough

Act 1 - Rogue Encampment

The Quest line of Act 1 leads you from the Rogue Encampment through open fields and a number of caves before you enter a massive Cathedral. In the Catacombs beneath, you face Andariel - the Maiden of Anguish!

Quest 1 - Den of Evil

This Quest is activated by talking to Akara in the Rogue Encampment.

Step 1: “Look for the Den in the wilderness outside the Rogues’ Camp.”
Leave the Rogue Encampment and follow the path in the Blood Moor. Follow the path to find the Den of Evil and enter it.

Step 2: “Kill all the monsters in the Den.”
Time for a killing spree. Kill everything that is inside the Den of Evil.
Tip: Focus Fallen Shaman before you kill the Fallen to prevent them from reviving dead Fallen.

Step 3: “Return to Akara for a reward.”
Talk to Akara in the Rogue Encampment.

Reward 1: 1 additional Skill Point
Reward 2: Reset Stat/Skill Points (a so-called respec to be used at any time)

Quest 2 - Sisters’ Burial Grounds

This Quest is activated by talking to Kashya in the Rogue Encampment after completing Quest 1 - Den of Evil.

Step 1: “Look for Blood Raven in the Burial Grounds next to the Cold Plains.”
Explore the Cold Plains until you find the Burial Grounds which are located in one of the corners of the map. 

Step 2: “Kill Blood Raven.”
Blood Raven is located in the center of the Burial Grounds and is surrounded by an army of Zombies. She has a rare Short Bow equipped, uses Fire Arrow, and spawns additional Zombies out of the graves surrounding her. Kill her!

Step 3: “Return to Kashya for a reward.”
Talk to Kashya in the Rogue Encampment.

Reward 1: Kashya will assign a Rogue to fight by your side.
Reward 2: You can hire a new Rogue at Kashya whenever you want.
Note: You can also hire a Rogue Mercenary as soon as you hit Level 8.

Quest 3 - The Search for Cain

This Quest is activated by talking to Akara in the Rogue Encampment after completing Quest 2 - Sisters’ Burial Grounds.

Step 1: “Go through the Underground Passage to the Dark Wood, search for the Tree of Inifuss, and recover the Scroll.”
Find the second exit in the Cold Plains to enter the Stony Fields. Find the Stony Fields Waypoint, located in a random spot on the map. After finding the Waypoint, enter the Underground Passage Level 1 and fight your way through it. There is an exit to the Dark Woods. You may find the entrance to the Underground Passage Level 2, but you do not need to go down there. Explore the Dark Wood until you find the Tree of Inifuss which is protected by Treehead Woodfist. Click on the tree to retrieve the Scroll of Inifuss. Make sure to pick up the Waypoint in Dark Wood!

Step 2: “Take the Scroll of Inifuss to Akara.”
Use the Waypoint to travel back to the Rogue Encampment and talk to Akara. She “identifies” the Scroll of Inifuss.

Step 3: “Go to the Cairn Stones in the Stony Field. Touch the Stones in the order found on the Scroll of Inifuss. Enter the portal to Tristram, but beware the danger that lies ahead.”
Use the Waypoint to return to the Stony Fields and look for Cairn Stones. They are always next to the path. You have to activate the stones in a specific order. Read the Scroll of Inifuss by right-clicking it to get the right order.
Tip: You can also simply click the stones randomly. After one of them has been activated, they stay activated even if you click the wrong stone next.

Step 4: ”Find and rescue Deckard Cain.”
After a bit of a light show, a portal will open in the center of the stones. Use it to enter Tristram. Find Deckard Cain in a cage in the center of the burning ruins. Click on Cain's Gibbet to save him. He will open a Town Portal and return to the Rogue Encampment. Unfortunately, you can't use his Town Portal...

Step 5: ”Visit Cain and Akara in the Rogue Encampment.”
Use a Scroll of Town Portal and return to the Rogue Encampment and talk to Deckard Cain and Akara to get your rewards.

Reward 1: Deckard Cain identifies items for free within the difficulty you saved him.
Reward 2: Akara gifts you a Magic Ring in Normal, a Rare Ring in Nightmare and Hell.

Quest 4 - The Forgotten Tower

This Quest is activated by reading The Moldy Tome. You can find it in a random location in the Stony Fields.

Step 1: ”Look for the Tower in the Black Marsh beyond the Dark Wood.”
Take the Waypoint to the Dark Wood and follow the path that starts at the exit of the Underground Passage Level 1 to find the Black Marsh. The Forgotten Tower is located in a random position within the Black Marsh. Explore the area to find the Waypoint before you enter The Forgotten Tower. If you encounter The Forgotten Tower first, leave a Town Portal and continue to look for the Waypoint. Return to The Forgotten Tower afterwards and enter it.

Step 2: ”Explore the cellar dungeons beneath the Tower ruins.”
You will find yourself in a small room with the entrance to the Tower Cellar Level 1. The Tower Cellar has 5 Levels and you will find your Quest target in the last Level.

Step 3: ”Dispose of the evil Countess.”
Tower Cellar Level 5 is a small map with 2 fixed layouts. You find The Countess in or close to the room opposite of the entrance. After killing her, a cloud of ghosts will appear and the chest in the middle of the room will open.

Quest 5 - Tools of the Trade

This Quest is activated by talking to Charsi in the Rogue Encampment after completing Quest 3 - The Search for Cain.

Step 1: ”Look for the Horadric Malus in the Monastery Barracks. Beware of the Smith that guards it.”
Take the Waypoint to the Black Marsh and follow the path to the Tamoe Highland. Go straight towards the center of the North-Eastern border and enter the Outer Cloister through the Monastery Gate. You will find the Waypoint in the center square of the map with 3 side areas. One of these side areas leads to the Barracks. Inside the Barracks you can find the Horadric Malus protected by the big blue Smith.

Step 2: ”Return the Horadric Malus to Charsi.”
Go back to the Rogue Encampment and talk to Charsi

Step 3: ”Charsi will imbue an item with magical powers.”
Reward: Charsi turns a Base Item into a Rare Item.

Quest 6 - Sisters to the Slaughter

This Quest is activated by talking to Deckard Cain in the Rogue Encampment after entering the Jail Level 1. You will find the entrance in the Barracks.

Step 1: ”Find Andariel’s Lair in the depths of the Monastery Catacombs.”
Enter the Jail Level 1 and fight your way down to Level 3 in which you will find the entrance to the Inner Cloister. Pick up the Waypoint and continue to the top right to enter the Cathedral. Stay to the right to find the entrance to the Catacombs Level 1. The Catacombs have 4 floors, with a Waypoint located in Catacombs Level 2. Andariel's Lair is in the final room of Catacombs Level 4.

Step 2: ”Kill Andariel.”
Slay the Maiden of Anguish! Be aware of her strong Poison Skills! Antidote Potions can help you out here!

Step 3: ”Return to Warriv to take the Caravan East.”
After killing Andariel a Town Portal will open that leads you to the Rogue Encampment. Talk to Warriv to travel to Act 2.


Act 2 - Lut Gholein

The Quest line of Act 2 leads you from Lut Gholein through a massive desert with a number of temples / graves. Afterwards, you will explore the depth of the palace to find Tal Rasha's Tombs. In one of them, you will face Duriel - The Lord of Pain!

Disclaimer: The Quest log of Act 2 is a bit of a mess. Some steps overlap with later Quests.

Quest 1 - Radament’s Lair

This Quest is activated by talking to Atma in the tavern of Lut Gholein.

Step 1: “Find Radament’s Lair in the Lut Gholein sewers.”
There are 2 entrances to the Sewers Level 1 in Lut Gholein. Fight your way all the way down to Sewers Level 3. Explore this area counterclockwise to find Radament next to a golden chest.
Tip: Enter the Sewers through the southern entrance. This will give you a high chance to be close to Sewers Level 2.

Step 2: “Kill Radament.”
Put Radament to rest and pick up the Book of Skill he drops. Open the golden chest and pick up the Horadric Scroll.

Step 3:Return to Atma for a reward.”
To complete the Quest you need to talk to Atma. The Quest Log is misleading her, as you already have your Quest reward, the Book of Skill. But she thanks you either way.

Reward 1: You get 1 Skill Point by right-clicking the Book of Skill.
Reward 2: Merchants in Act 2 have lower vendor prices for items, excluding gambling from Elzix.

Quest 2 - The Horadric Staff

This Quest is activated when you pick up the Horadric Scroll from the golden chest in Sewers Level 3.

Step 1: “Show the scroll to Cain in Lut Gholein.”
Have a conversation with Deckard Cain in Lut Gholein.

Step 2: “Search the Halls of the Dead under the Dry Hills for the Cube. Search the Maggot Lair under the Far Oasis for the Shaft. Search the Claw Viper Temple for the Headpiece.”
There are 3 tasks in total in this part of the Quest. Let's split them up.

The Cube:
Leave Lut Gholein and explore the borders of the Rocky Waste to find the Dry Hills. Explore the Dry Hills to find the Halls of the Dead Level 1 and the Waypoint. Enter the Halls of the Dead and fight your way down to Level 3. Here you will find a golden chest that will drop you the Horadric Cube.

The Shaft:
Explore the borders of the Dry Hills to find the Far Oasis. Explore the Far Oasis to find the entrance to the Maggot Lair Level 1 and the Waypoint. Enter the Maggot Lair and fight your way down to Level 3. Here you will find a golden chest that will drop you the Staff of Kings.

The Headpiece:
Explore the borders of the Far Oasis to find the Lost City. Explore the borders of the Lost City to find the entrance to the Valley of Snakes where you can enter the Claw Viper Temple Level 1. Find the Claw Viper Temple Level 2. The "Tainted Sun Altar" is waiting for you in the middle of the room. Left click it to claim the Amulet of the Viper.
Tip: Valley of Snakes is never in the bottom corner of the map!

Step 3: “Use the Horadric Cube to restore the Staff.”
Put the Staff of Kings and the Amulet of the Viper into the Horadric Cube by picking them up and left-clicking them on the Horadric Cube icon. Open the Horadric Cube with a right click and use the “Transmute” button to combine the two pieces into the Horadric Staff.

Step 4: “Take the Staff into Tal Rasha’s Tomb.”
This step is out of place here. You will complete this automatically in the final Quest of Act 2.

Quest 3 - Tainted Sun

This Quest is activated when you enter the Lost City. Everything goes dark after a couple of Seconds.

Step 1: “Ask Drognan about the strange darkness.”
Talk to Drognan in Lut Gholein.

Step 2: “Destroy the Serpent Altar in the Claw Viper Temple beneath the Valley of Snakes.”
The "Serpent Altar" refers to the "Tainted Sun Altar" within the Claw Viper Temple Level 2. You will complete this step when you pick up the Amulet of the Viper.

Step 3: “Speak with the townsfolk in Lut Gholein.”
Talk to anyone in Lut Gholein to complete this Quest.

Note: This Quest must be completed if you want to use Town Portals from party members in the upcoming areas!

Quest 4 - Arcane Sanctuary

This Quest is activated when you complete the Horadric Staff.

Step 1: “Talk to Drognan.”
Talk to Drognan in Lut Gholein to gain information.

Step 2: “Look for the Arcane Sanctuary within the Palace.”
In the West of Lut Gholein you find the palace which contains the entrance to the Harem Level 1. Fight your way through Harem Level 2 and the Palace Cellar Level 1 and 2 to enter the Palace Cellar Level 3. You will find a portal device in the center of the map. Activate the device by left-clicking and enter the Arcane Sanctuary through the portal that will open. Pick up the Waypoint right away, you will most likely need it soon.

Step 3: “Find Horazon’s Journal”
The Arcane Sanctuary is split into 4 directions. Three of them are dead ends, and one of them will contain Horazon’s Journal. There is no way to know what way will be the correct one. Make your way through each direction until you find the far end of it. Rinse and repeat until you find Horazon’s Journal. Reading the journal will open a red portal that leads to the Canyon of the Magi.

Quest 5 - The Summoner

This Quest is triggered when you approach Horazon's Journal from the previous Quest.

Step 1: “Kill the Summoner.”
Get rid of The Summoner who is in your way for "Quest 4 - Arcane Sanctuary" anyway.

Step 2: “Return to town for more information.”
Talk to anyone in town to complete this Quest.

Note: This Quest must be completed if you want to use Town Portals from party members in the upcoming areas!

Quest 6 - The Seven Tombs

This Quest is triggered by talking to Jerhyn after killing The Summoner.

Step 1: “Find Tal Rasha’s Tomb.”
Enter the Canyon of the Magi or talk to anyone in Lut Gholein after.

Step 2: “The Symbol of the True Tomb of Tal Rasha.”
You will find 7 Tal Rasha's Tombs within the Canyon of the Magi. Each of them has a symbol at the entrance. Enter the tomb that has the symbol shown in the Quest log. The symbols will always be in this order, from west to east:

Explore the tomb and find the Orifice. Click it to insert the Horadric Staff and click the activation button below. After an animation, Tal Rasha's Chamber will open. Enter it to face and kill Duriel - The Lord of Pain.
Tip: Use some Thawing Potions for an additional 50% Cold Resistance! This will make the fight against Duriel a lot easier!

Step 3: “Explore Tal Rasha’s Tomb.”
After you have killed Duriel, a door will open to the left of the Chamber. Follow the corridor and talk to Tyrael at the very end.

Step 4: “Talk to Jerhyn.”
Tyrael opens a Town Portal, use it to return to Lut Gholein and talk to Jerhyn at the palace.

Step 5: “Talk to Meshif.”
Let's take a little shortcut. Enter Harem Level 1 and open a Town Portal to get close to Meshif. Talk to him and sail to Act 3.


Act 3 - Kurast Docks

The Quest line of Act 3 leads you from the Kurast Docks through a massive jungle past Kurast and into Travincal. Underneath Travincal you will find your way through the Durance of Hate to face Mephisto - Lord of Hatred.

Disclaimer: The Quest Log of Act 3 doesn’t give you any clues on how to start. Let’s figure it out together!

Quest 1 - The Golden Bird

This Quest is triggered when A Jade Figurine drops from a random elite group throughout Act 3.

Step 1: “Ask Cain about the Jade Figurine.”
Return to the Kurast Docks and talk to Deckard Cain after you have picked up A Jade Figurine.

Step 2: “Show Meshif the Figurine.”
Talk to Meshif. He will trade you the The Golden Bird.

Step 3: “Ask Cain about the Golden Bird.”
Another trip to Deckard Cain for more information.

Step 4: “Give the Golden Bird to Alkor.”
Bring The Golden Bird to Alkor.

Step 5: “Return to Alkor for reward.”
You might have to talk to him twice.

Reward: You receive a Potion of Life that permanently grants you 20 Life. Right click it to use.

Quest 2 - Blade of the Old Religion

This Quest is triggered by talking to Hratli after completing "Quest 1 - The Golden Bird".
Tip: Ignore this Quest until you reach step 2 of "Quest 3 - Khalim’s Will". It is located on the way to your target there.

Step 1: “Look for the Gidbinn in the Flayer Jungle.”
The Gidbinn is located next to the entrance to the Flayer Dungeon Level 1. Click on the "Gidbinn" arrangement and kill the Elite Group spawns after a couple seconds. The elite will drop The Gidbinn, pick it up.

Step 2: “Return the Gidbinn to Ormus.”
Return to Kurast Docks and talk to Ormus. He will place The Gidbinn into a blue bubble on a stone arrangement.

Step 3: “Talk to Asheara.”
Use the Bridge top left from Ormus to find Asheara and talk to her. If you don’t have a Mercenary yet, she will give you an Act 3 Iron Wolf to fight by your side.

Step 4: “Talk to Ormus.”
Talk to Ormus again to claim your second reward, a rare Ring.

Reward 1: If you don’t have a Mercenary yet, you will get an Act 3 Iron Wolf from Asheara. You can also hire an Act 3 Iron Wolf now.
Reward 2: A rare Ring from Ormus.

Quest 3 - Khalim’s Will

This Quest gets triggered by talking to Deckard Cain after completing "Quest 1 - The Golden Bird".
This is another Quest that leads you through the entire Act.

Step 1: “Find Khalim’s relics. Search for his Eye in the Spider Cavern.”
Travel along the river in the Spider Forest. Look for gaps in the tree line that have 2 pillars (see screenshot) on each side. These mark the entrance to a “camp”. There are three “camps” in each jungle Area of Act 3. In one of the “camps” in the Spider Forest you will find the Spider Cavern, one has the Waypoint, and one will have empty ruins. Explore these side areas until you find the Spider Cavern. Khalim's Eye is waiting in a golden chest inside the Spider Cavern.

Step 2: “Find Khalim’s Brain in the Flayer Dungeon.”
For this step, you need to find the Flayer Jungle. The most simplistic way to find the Flayer Jungle is to follow the river at all times. There is a chance that the entrance to the Great Marsh and the Flayer Jungle are directly connected, however, there is also a chance that you have to go through the Great Marsh to find the Flayer Jungle.
Once you have found the Flayer Jungle, you are going to explore the area similarly to the Spider Forest. Look out for the side areas marked by the pillars. One will lead you to Flayer Dungeon Level 1 and the location for “Quest 2 - Blade of the Old Religion", one to the Waypoint and one to a dead end. Enter the Flayer Dungeon Level 1 after picking up The Gidbinn and the Waypoint and fight your way down to Flayer Dungeon Level 3 where you will find Khalim's Brain.

Step 3: “Search for Khalim’s Heart in the Sewers under the Kurast Bazaar.”
Return to the Flayer Jungle and follow the river until you reach Lower Kurast. Towards the top right you will encounter a barrier which has a gap either on the far top or far right that leads to Kurast Bazaar. Explore the area to find the Waypoint and afterwards one of the 2 entrances to Sewers Level 1. Enter the Sewers and explore them clockwise until you find the Sewer Lever that will open Sewers Level 2 when you click it. Khalim’s Heart is located in a golden chest in Sewers Level 2.

Step 4: “Search for Khalim’s Flail in Travincal. Beware the High Council.”
After you have picked up Khalim’s Heart go back to Sewers Level 1 and exit through one of the two exits to Upper Kurast. Head north-east until you hit a waterfront. A bridge, the Kurast Causway, will let you cross that waterfront to enter Travincal. Walk straight north after walking through the archway to find the Waypoint. Afterwards, head east and face the High Council.

Note: In order to get Khalim’s Flail you only need to kill one of the High Council members (Ismail Vilehand, Toorc Icefist or Geleb Flamebringer).

Step 5: “Ask Cain about Khalim’s relics.”
Talk to Deckard Cain to figure out what to do with the Khalim's relics.

Step 6: “Transmute Khalim’s relics - the Flail, Eye, Heart, and Brain - with the Horadric Cube.”
Put Khalim’s Flail, Khalim’s Eye, Khalim’s Heart, and Khalim’s Brain into the Horadric Cube and transmute them to get Khalim’s Will.

Step 7: “Use Khalim’s Will to smash the Compelling Orb.”
In the temple in which you faced the High Council, you will find the Compelling Orb. Equip Khalim’s Will and take a couple of swings at it.

Note: The final step is also the first for "Quest 6 - The Guardian".

Quest 4 - Lam Esen’s Tome

This Quest is triggered by talking to Alkor after entering Lower Kurast.

Step 1: “Search the six temples in the Bazaar, Upper Kurast, and the Causeway for Lam Esen's Tome.”
You don't need to search all the temples. Go to the Kurast Bazaar and look for the entrance to the Ruined Temple which has a staircase leading to it that "points" towards the top with the top of the staircase. Pick up Lam Esen's Tome.

Step 2: “Talk to Alkor.”
Go to the Kurast Docks and talk to Alkor to receive your reward.

Reward: 5 Stat Points

Quest 5 - The Blackened Temple

This Quest is triggered when you enter Travincal.

Step 1: “Find the Blackened Temple within Travincal.”
Return to the temple in Travincal in which you have collected Khalim's Flail.

Step 2: “Kill the High Council.”
Different to “Quest 3 - Khalim’s Will” you have to kill all 3 of the High Council members (Ismail Vilehand, Toorc Icefist or Geleb Flamebringer).

Note: You have to complete this Quest to enter Town Portals of your party members inside the Durance of Hate.

Step 3: “Ask Cain for help.”
Return to Kurast Docks to talk to Deckard Cain, and the Quest is finished.

Note: This Quest sometimes bugs out. You have to rejoin or create a new game to fix this.

Quest 6 - The Guardian

Step 1: “Smash the Compelling Orb with Khalim’s Will to open the way to Mephisto’s Durance.”
We should already have done this at the end of "Quest 3 - Khalim’s Will". But to repeat: Hit the Compelling Orb twice with Khalim's Will equipped. After a beautiful animation, the entrance to the Durance of Hate Level 1 will open. Enter it!

Step 2: “Search for Mephisto in his Durance.”
Fight your way down to the Durance of Hate Level 3. Here you will find Mephisto.

Tip: In Nightmare and Hell get the Waypoint in Durance of Hate Level 2. Mephisto is THE best place to start farming for Sets and Uniques.

Step 3: “Kill Mephisto.”
Show the Lord of Hatred who is boss. Kill him! Pick up Mephisto’s Soulstone and use the red portal in the middle of Durance of Hate Level 3 to travel to Act 4.


Act 4 - Pandemonium Fortress

The Quest line of Act 4 leads you from the Pandemonium Fortress through the battlefields between Angels and Demons into the depths of Hell, where you face Diablo - Lord of Terror in the Chaos Sanctuary.

Quest 1 - The Fallen Angel

This Quest is triggered by talking to Tyrael in the Pandemonium Fortress.

Step 1: “Look for Izual in the Plains of Despair.”
Leave The Pandemonium Fortress and fight your way through the Outer Steppes and find the entrance to the Plains of Despair. Explore the Plains of Despair to find Izual who will spawn on a specific map tile that is placed randomly on the map.

Tip: The Quest log will pop up when you are close to him. Pay attention to it!

Step 2: “Destroy the demon that holds Izual’s soul.”
Go ahead and kill Izual. This can take a bit as he is a very tanky foe.

Step 3: “Talk to Izual’s Spirit.”
After killing Izual, his angel shaped spirit will appear. Talk to him.

Step 4: “See Tyrael for reward.”
Return to the Pandemonium Fortress and talk to Tyrael to receive your reward.

Reward: 2 extra Skill Points!

Quest 2 - Hell’s Forge

This Quest will be triggered by talking to Deckard Cain in the Pandemonium Fortress.

Step 1: “Take Mephisto’s Soustone to the Hellforge.”
Return to the Plains of Despair and explore the border of the map to find the entrance to the City of the Damned. In the City of the Damned, you will find the staircase down to the River of Flame. It is placed randomly on the map. The Waypoint is next to the staircase. Enter the River of Flame and explore the area. You will find the Hellforge between the entrance and the River of Flame Waypoint. The Quest log will pop up when you approach the correct tile.

Step 2: “Destroy Mephisto’s Soulstone at the Hellforge.”
Kill Hephasto the Armorer next to the Hellforge and claim the Hell Forge Hammer. The Hellforge is on a raised platform. Click it to place Mephisto's Soulstone, equip the Hell Forge Hammer and left-click the Hellforge 3 times to destroy it.

Reward 1: A random regular, two random Flawless, and one random Perfect Gem.
Reward 2: A random Rune between El Rune and Sol Rune in Normal.
Reward 2: A random Rune between Sol Rune and Um Rune in Nightmare.
Reward 2: A random Rune between Hel Rune and Gul Rune in Hell.

Quest 3 - Terror’s End

This Quest is triggered when you enter the Chaos Sanctuary.

Step 1: “Find Diablo in his Sanctuary.”
After completing "Quest 2 - Hell’s Forge" find the Waypoint to the River of Flame and continue past Hadriel. After a small maze, you will reach the Chaos Sanctuary. Fight your way to the pentagram in the middle of the area. For Diablo to appear, you have to activate 5 Seals and kill the 3 elite groups that will appear. In the top left you will activate 2 Seals and face Grand Vizier of Chaos, in the top right you will activate 1 Seal and face Lord de Seis, and in the bottom right you activate 2 Seals and face Infector of Souls. The screen starts to shake and Diablo will spawn in the pentagram with his famous last word "Not even death can save you from me!". After you have defeated the Lord of Terror, return to the Pandemonium Fortress and talk to Tyrael. He will open a red portal that will get you out of Hell and into Harrogath.


Act 5 - Harrogath

The Quest line of Act 5 leads you from Harrogath past vast plateaus and all the way up Mount Arreat with the help of some ice caves. Past the iconic Arreat Summit, you will descend into the Worldstone Keep and face Baal - Lord of Destruction in the Worldstone Chamber!

Quest 1 - Siege on Harrogath

This Quest is triggered by talking to Larzuk in Harrogath.

Step 1: “Stop the Siege by killing Shenk the Overseer in the Bloody Foothills.”
Leave Harrogath through the gate at the top left and keep heading that direction until the end of the area. You will find Shenk the Overseer just in front of a big staircase which will lead you to the Frigid Highlands.

Step 2: “Kill Shenk the Overseer.”
Get rid of Harrogath's plague.

Step 3: “Go talk to Larzuk for your reward.”
Climb the stairs to grab the Waypoint of Frigid Highlands, return to Harrogath and talk to Larzuk.

Step 4: “Larzuk will add sockets to the item of your choice.”

Reward 1: Larzuk will put the maximum amount of Sockets into an item of your choice. Exception: On Magic Items, it is a chance between 1 and 2 Sockets.
Reward 2: Malah reduces vendor prices in town, excluding Gamble prices from Nihlathak and eventually Anya.

Quest 2 - Rescue on Mount Arreat

This Quest is triggered by talking to Qual-Kehk after defeating Shenk the Overseer, or by entering the Frigid Highlands.

Step 1: “Find the Soldiers in the Frigid Highlands.”
Explore the Frigid Highlands and look for the first cage with 5 Barbarians inside. Destroy the Prison Door.

Note: There are a total of 3 cages (more small fences, really) with 5 Barbarians each. They are located in 3 barricades that stretch over the full width of the area. You can have up to 2 cages per barricade.

Step 2: “Free the soldiers from their prison and lead them back to town.”
Stay close to the cage after destroying the wall, and they'll open a Town Portal to return to Harrogath.

Step 3: “Rescue 10 more Soldiers in the Frigid Highlands.”
Find the second cage!

Step 4: “Free the soldiers from their prison and lead them back to town.”
Stay close to the cage after destroying the wall, and they will open a Town Portal to return to Harrogath.

Step 5: “Rescue 5 more Soldiers in the Frigid Highlands.”
Find the final cage!

Step 6: “Free the soldiers from their prison and lead them back to town.”
Stay close to the cage after destroying the wall, and they will open a Town Portal to return to Harrogath.

Step 7: “Return to Qual-Kehk for your reward.”
Travel back to Harrogath and talk to Qual-Kehk.

Reward: You will get 3 Runes: Tal Rune, Ral Rune, and Ort Rune.

Quest 3 - Prison of Ice

This Quest is triggered by talking to Malah in Harrogath after completing "Quest 2 - Rescue on Mount Arreat".

Step 1: “Look for Anya under the Crystalline Passage by the Frozen River.”
Move ahead in the Frigid Highlands and fight your way through the Arreat Plateau. You will find the entrance to the Crystalline Passage at the very end. Explore the Crystalline Passage counterclockwise to find the Waypoint. Continue the counterclockwise motion to find the entrance to the Frozen River and enter it. You will find Anya at the very end of the Frozen River.

Step 2: “Rescue Anya.”
Talk to "Frozen Anya" to get information on how to save her.

Step 3: “Talk to Malah.”
Use a Town Portal to return to Harrogath and talk to Malah. She gives you Malah’s Potion.

Step 4: “Use the potion Malah gave you to thaw Anya.”
Return to the Frozen River through your Town Portal and click on Frozen Anya. Anya will be freed, and she uses a Town Portal to get back to Harrogath.

Step 5: “Talk to Malah for your reward.”
Return to Harrogath and speak to Malah for your first reward.

Step 6: “Talk to Anya.”
Anya will replace Nihlathak as an NPC in Harrogath. Go to the bottom left of the Waypoint to talk to her. She gives you a character specific rare item and open the red Portal to Nihlathak’s Temple.

Reward 1: Malah gives you the Scroll of Resistance which permanently provides you with +10% to all Resistances. Right-click the Scroll!
Reward 2: Anya gives you a rare character specific item.

Quest 4 - Betrayal of Harrogath

This Quest is triggered by talking to Anya in order to complete "Quest 3 - Prison of Ice".

Step 1: “Take Anya’s portal to Nihlathak’s Temple.”
Enter the red Portal.

Step 2: “Find Nihlathak in the Halls of Vaught.”
Head towards the top right and you will find the entrance to the Halls of Anguish behind the Superunique Pindleskin. Enter the Halls of Anguish. Explore the Halls of Anguish until you find the entrance to the Halls of Pain. Explore the Halls of Pain until you find the entrance to the Halls of Vaught. This is an "X"-shaped area. You finds Nihlathak in one of the four directions.

Step 3: “Kill Nihlathak.”
It is time to avenge the imprisonment of Anya.
Warning: Try to stay away from corpses. Nihlathak is using Corpse Explosion which will deal a lot of damage, especially in Hell! (with low Life, this can one-shot you!!)

Step 4: “Talk to Anya before you continue through the Crystalline Passage, past the Glacial Trail, to proceed up Mount Arreat to the Summit.”
Return to Harrogath and talk to Anya.

Step 5: "Anya will personalize an item for you."

Reward: Anya will put your Character’s name on one item of your choosing. Example: “Teo’s Skin of the Vipermagi”.

Quest 5 - Rite of Passage

This Quest is triggered by talking to Qual-Kehk after completing "Quest 4 - Betrayal of Harrogath".

Step 1: “Travel through the Ancient’s Way to find the Ancients at the Arreat Summit.”
Return to the Crystalline Passage and climb the mountain through the Glacial Trail and the Frozen Tundra.
At the end of the Frozen Tundra, you will find the entrance to the Ancients' Way at the very end. Explore the Ancients’ Way to find the Arreat Summit.

Note: Before you enter the Arreat Summit, fill up on Potions and leave a Town Portal at the Ancients’ Way! This can serve as a “checkpoint” to get back easily if you die in the upcoming fight.

Step 2: “Consult with the Ancients by activating the Altar of the Heavens."
Go to the center of the map and click the Altar of the Heavens. After a tiny lore piece, the fight begins!

Step 3: “Defeat all three Ancients without leaving Mount Arreat.”
You are now facing Madawc, Korlic, and Talic - The three Ancients. Madawc uses Double Throw as well as Shout and has high Lightning Resistances; Korlic uses Leap Attack and has high Cold Resistances; Talic uses Whirlwind and has high Fire Resistances. In Hell difficulty, these translate into guaranteed Immunities to those elements.

Note: Completing this Quest requires you to have a minimum Level in each difficulty. 20 for Normal, 40 for Nightmare, and 60 for Hell.

Reward: You will either get 1.4 Million Experience in Normal; 20 Million Experience in Nightmare; 40 Million Experience in Hell OR a maximum of 1 Level, if a full Level will require less than these experience values.

Quest 6 - Eve of Destruction

This Quest is triggered when you have defeated the Ancients.

Step 1: “Find Baal’s Throne Room.”
After killing the Ancients, they will allow you to enter the Worldstone Keep Level 1 at the top right of the Arreat Summit. You have to fight your way down to Worldstone Keep Level 3 in which you will find the entrance to the Throne of Destruction. Make sure to pick up the Waypoint you can find in Worldstone Keep Level 2!

Step 2: “Kill Baal’s Minions.”
Enter the Throne of Destruction and head towards the top right. You'll find a big room with 4 pillars on each side and Baal standing at the top of some stairs. You have to kill every monster in this area. Baal starts laughing, and he will spawn 5 consecutive waves of monsters that you will kill:

  • Wave 1: Colenzo the Annihilator with some Warped Ones
  • Wave 2: Achmel the Cursed together with 3 additional Unravelers and some Cold Skeleton Mages
  • Wave 3: Bartuc the Bloody with some Council Members
  • Wave 4: Ventar the Unholy with some Venom Lords
  • Wave 5: Lister the Tormentor with some Minions of Destruction (Unique monster type to this area!)

Step 3: “Kill Baal.”
After you have killed the final wave, Baal starts laughing and move to the Worstone Chamber. The entrance is at the top of the staircase. Enter the Worldstone Chamber yourself and face Baal.
After you have killed Baal, Tyrael makes his way into the crumbling Worldstone Chamber. Talk to him and he opens a red portal “Destruction’s End” which brings you to the final cinematic and credits.


Important Quests

Skill Quests

There are 3 Quests that permanently grant your Character additional Skill Points. Completing these Important Quests in all 3 difficulties results in a total of 12 Skill Points which greatly increase the power of your Characters.

Den of Evil (+1 Skill Point)

The objective of this Quest is to kill every monster in the Den of Evil which is located in Blood Moor just outside the Rogue Encampment in Act 1. Akara rewards you with an additional Skill Point and the ability to Reset your Stats and Skill Points, once per difficulty.

In Hell difficulty you'll face monsters that are Immune to Cold and monsters that are Immune to Fire. If you are using these Elements, you need a Mercenary or party members that can deal with them.

Radaments Lair (+1 Skill Points)

The objective of this Quest is to kill Radament who resides in Sewers Level 3 underneath Lut Gholein in Act 2. He drops a Book of Skill when killed. Completing the Quest also reduces vendor prices in Act 2.

In Nightmare and Hell Radament has a tendency to spawn Immune to Cold, caused by his natural 60% Cold Resistance and additional Elite Affixes. In Hell, he is often Immune to Physical due to his base 50% Physical Resistances.

Izual (+2 Skill Points)

The objective of this Quest is to kill Izual who resides in the Plains of Despair in Act 4. Return to Tyrael after to receive 2 additional Skill Points for your Character.

While Izual is never Immune to any damage type, he has a high Life pool and has 30% Resistances against all damage types. This can lead to a drawn out fight against him in which he uses his Frost Nova attack frequently.

Beware of Burning Souls in this area, especially in Nightmare and Hell. They deal significant amounts of Lightning Damage.


Stats, Attributes and Resistances

There are 3 Quests that permanently grant your Character additional Life, Stat Points, and Resistances. Completing these Important Quests in all 3 difficulties results in additional 60 Life, 15 Stat Points, and 30 to All Resistances (except Magic and Physical). These are essential for survivability, especially for Hardcore Characters.

The Golden Bird (+20 to Life)

The objective of this Quest is to retrieve The Jade Figurine from random Elite Groups in Act 3. Pick it up, talk to Meshif and then to Alkor, who gives you Potion of Life. This Potion permanently grants your Character 20 maximum Life, summing up to 60 when completed in all 3 difficulties.
Note: You might have to talk to Alkor multiple times to receive the Potion!

Lam Esen's Tome (+5 Stat Points)

The objective of this Quest is to retrieve Lam Esen's Tome from a pedestal in the Ruined Temple in Kurast Bazaar in Act 3, and bring it to Alkor. He permanently grants you 5 additional Stat Points that are available in your Attributes Screen right away, summing up to 15 additional Stat Points when completed in all difficulties.

Prison of Ice (All Resistances +10)

The objective of this Quest is to free Anya from her icy prison in the Frozen River within the Crystalline Passage in Act 5. Return to Harrogath and talk to Malah who gives you malah's Potion. Go back to the Frozen River and click Anya one more time. After a short animation, Anya is free and returns to Harrogath. Talk to Malah again and receive the Scroll of Resistance which permanently grants All Resistances +10 (DOES NOT apply to Magic, and Physical Resistance!).

Note: If someone else talks to Malah after you talked to Anya in her prison, they receive malah's Potion.


Item Quest Rewards

These Quests don't have an immediate effect on your Character's Stats and Skill Points. When used correctly, they have a chance to give powerful items that can drastically improve your gear.

Tools of the Trade (Imbue Item)

The objective of this Quest is to retrieve the Horadric Malus which hangs in a stand next to The Smith in the Barracks in Act 1. Return it to Charsi, and she offers to imbue a Base Item of your choice, turning it into a Rare Item. To acquire the Horadric Malus the Character needs to be at least Level 8. The Item created has an Item Level = Character Level +4.

This Quest reward has a small chance of creating amazing items and is frequently used to imbue:

  • Diadems (Can have all Affixes at Character Level 8)
  • Circlets, Coronets
  • Druid Pelts
  • Primal Helmets
  • Belt
  • Boots

Hell's Forge (Rune Quest)

The objective of this Quest is to destroy Mephisto's Soulstone on The Hellforge which is located on a pedestal in the River of Flame between the Waypoint and the Entrance. You need to kill Hephasto the Armorer, who is located next to the Hellforge and drops the Hell Forge Hammer. If you did not pick up mephisto’ssoulstone on Mephisto’s death, Deckard Cain gives you one if you talk to him in Act 4.

Reward 1: A random regular, two random Flawless, and one random Perfect Gem.
Reward 2: A random Rune between El Rune and Sol Rune in Normal.
Reward 2: A random Rune between Sol Rune and Um Rune in Nightmare.
Reward 2: A random Rune between Hel Rune and Gul Rune in Hell.

Note: While the reward in Normal can be strong in the early game, the high Runes in Nightmare and Hell have some trade value and are frequently used as payment for rushing a Character through that difficulty.

Siege of Harrogath (Socket Item)

The objective of this Quest is to kill Shenk the Overseer at the end of the Bloody Foothills just outside Harrogath in Act 5. Return to Harrogath and Larzuk offers to put Sockets into an item of your choosing:

  • Base Items receive their maximum possible number of Sockets which depend on their Item Levels:
    • Example: A Crystal Sword from The Secret Cow Level can get a maximum of 4 Sockets because of its Item Level being between 26 and 40. Any Crystal Sword with an Item Level > than 40 receives 6 Sockets.
    • Example 2: Any Monarch always receives 4 Sockets.

Rescue on Mount Arreat (Ral Rune + Ort Rune + Tal Rune)

The objective of this Quest is to save 15 Barbarians from cages in the Frigid Highlands in Act 5. Qual-Kehk gifts the Runes required for Ancient's Pledge (Ral Rune + Ort Rune + Tal Rune). This is very strong for every Character in the early game. In Nightmare and Hell, this Quest is a fast way to acquire these specific Runes for Runewords and Horadric Cube recipes.

Prison of Ice (Character specific Rare Item)

In addition to the Resistances mentioned above, Anya gives you a Character specific Rare Item. The Item Level of this Rare Item = Character Level and can sometimes be a very strong upgrade for your Character. Especially Barbarians, and Druids can benefit from a lucky roll.
