Introduction

Amazon

Amazons are known for their prowess wielding Throwing Spears, Javelins, and Bows, making them the Character of choice if you enjoy ranged combat. Don't underestimate her versatility in hand-to-hand combat though, as she can use Throwing Spears, Javelins, and Spears to become a fierce melee warrior.

The ultimate boss killing Skill, with no rival on any other Character, is the beloved Charged Strike. This Skill can smash Act bosses with a low budget. Fully geared, even the final boss,  Baal, falls within a couple of hits.

Plague Javelin and Lightning Fury are incredibly strong at decimating large quantities of enemies. These Skills excel at clearing out The Secret Cow Level, a frequently used farming spot.

While using a bow, Multiple Shot, Strafe, and Freezing Arrow are frequently used to destroy your enemies. They are a bit more item dependent, so starting with these options is not recommended!

Compared to other Characters, the Amazon is among the slowest. She doesn't have a native mobility Skill, therefore, she relies on Enigma to increase her speed. Her low Cast Rate makes the use of Teleport rather painful. In addition to that, not all builds can incorporate it, which makes running the only option for those.

Attributes

Every Character has the Attributes Strength, Dexterity, Vitality and Energy. At maximum Level, a Character has access to 505 Stat Points which can be allocated into the Attributes. While Vitality only affects the Life pool and Energy only affects the Mana pool of your Character, Strength and Dexterity have additional uses:

Strength:
Generally, Stat Points are only allocated to this Attribute to wear your gear, however, Strength has an additional use: it increases the Physical Damage portion of melee attacks.

Dexterity:
Generally, Stat Points are only allocated to this Attribute to wear your gear, however, Dexterity has 4 additional uses:

  • It increases the % Chance to Block up to 75 while using a Shield.
  • The Attack Rating of every attack is increased, improving the Chance to hit your target.
  • Every 4th Stat Point into Dexterity increases the base Defense of the Character by 1.
  • On ranged builds, Dexterity increased the Physical Damage portion of your attacks.

Breakpoints

Breakpoints are an integral way to improve your Character's performance. For in-depth explanations on them, please check out our article on Breakpoints.

Attack Rate

Due to her Skill set, Attack Speed is a Breakpoint the Amazon cares about. Due to the complexity, Attack Speed would go beyond the scope of this post. Check out the d2planner to simulate your Breakpoints.

Block Rate

When using a Shield, the Amazon has a % Chance to Block. When successfully blocking, she enters a block animation. Increasing your +% Faster Block Rate decreases the time your Amazon needs to execute it.

Skill Trees

Structure
Every Character has 3 Skill Trees in which they can allocate Skill Points to increase their power. Each Skill Tree consists of a total of 10 Skills, and you can assign a maximum of 20 points per Skill. These Skills are placed into 6 rows, which represent the 6 Skill tiers. While tier 1 is available at Character Level (clvl) 1, the other tiers get available at clvl 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30.

Skill Points
Every Character gains access to 110 Skill Points (98 from Level-Ups and 12 from quests).

Prerequisites
Not every Skill is available right away. The arrows on the Skill Tree show the prerequisites needed to obtain Skills further down the Tree.
Example: You have to put a Skill Point into Jab and Impale to gain access to Fend.

Synergies
A lot of Skills have Synergies, which are Skills that passively boost the strength of another Skill. The main Skill shows how much a Synergy increases its power per Skill Point allocated into it.
Example: The base Lightning Damage of Charged Strike is increased by a summed up multiplier which increases by 10% for each Skill Point allocated into Power Strike, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Strike, and Lightning Fury.

Skill Mechanics (Work in Progress)

Every Skill in Diablo 2 Resurrected is unique. Find out about their individual scaling, functionality, and nuances in the following section. The Skills are listed going through the Skill Tree columns from top to bottom, starting on the left.

Javelin and Spear

Jab

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Enemies targeted by this Skill will be hit by 3 consecutive hits.
  • Requires a successful hit check to apply damage.
  • Can only be used with the Weapon types Javelin and Spear.
  • It is not interrupted by blocking, casting, Hit Recovery, being knocked back or stunned after the first hit has been executed.
  • Can be interrupted by Dodge or Avoid. When interrupted, the Jab sequence is stopped. The following Jab sequence will miss if you continue to attack.
  • The Mana costs increase by 0.25 with each Skill Level (slvl), starting at 2 Mana on Skill Level 1.
    Mana Cost = 1.75 + (0.25 * slvl)
  • The bonus % Attack Rating increases by 9% with each Skill Level, starting at 10% on Skill Level 1.
    +% Attack Rating = 1 + (9 * slvl)
  • The bonus % Damage increases by 3% with each Skill Level, starting at -15% on Skill Level 1.
    +% Damage = (3 * slvl) - 18

Impale

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Enemies targeted by this Skill will be hit with a single, powerful hit, which is slower than a regular attack.
  • Requires a successful hit check to apply damage.
  • Can only be used with the Weapon types Javelin and Spear.
  • Critical Strike and Deadly Strike do not apply.
  • The bonus % Attack Rating increases by 25% with each Skill Level (slvl), starting at 100% on Skill Level 1:
    +% Attack Rating = 75 + (25 x slvl)
  • The bonus % Damage increases by 25% with each Skill Level, starting at 300% on Skill Level 1:
    +% Damage = 275 + (25 x slvl)
  • Weapons used suffer from an increased % chance to lose Durability / Quantity. This chance is based on the Skill Level using this formula:
    ceil(50 - (30 x ((110 x slvl) / (slvl + 6)) / 100), 20)

Fend

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Up to 12 targets surrounding the Amazon in melee range will be attacked once. No target will be hit twice!
  • Can only be used with the Weapon types Javelin and Spear.
  • Requires a successful hit check to apply damage.
  • Will not be interrupted by blocking, casting, hit recovery, being knocked back or stunned after the first hit has been executed.
  • Can be interrupted by Dodge or Avoid. When interrupted, the Fend sequence is stopped. The following Fend sequence will miss if you continue to attack.
  • The bonus % Attack Rating increases by 10% with each Skill Level (slvl), starting at 40% on Skill Level 1:
    +% Attack Rating = 30 + (10 x slvl)
  • The bonus % Damage increases by 10% with each Skill Level, starting at 70% on Skill Level 1:
    +% Damage = 60 + (10 x slvl)

Power Strike

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Adds Lightning Damage to a regular Attack.
  • Can only be used with the Weapon types Javelin and Spear.
  • Requires a successful hit check to apply damage.
  • The bonus % Attack Rating shown in the Skill tool tip doesn't apply to the hit check calculation. +% Attack Rating from other sources do apply properly.
  • The calculation for the added base Lightning Damage (before Synergies) depends on the Skill Level (slvl). While the minimum Lightning Damage will always stay 1, the maximum damage scales with these formulas:

slvl 1-8:
slvl 9-16:
slvl 17-22:
slvl 23-28:
slvl >28:

base Lightning Damage = (18 x slvl) - 2
base Lightning Damage = (36x slvl) - 146
base Lightning Damage = (54 x slvl) - 434
base Lightning Damage = (72 x slvl) - 830
base Lightning Damage = (90 x slvl) - 1334

  • Synergy bonuses don't increase the minimum Lightning Damage.
  • Synergies apply the maximum Lightning Damage as a single multiplier. To calculate the +% Lightning Damage you have to sum up the base Levels (blvl) of Lightning Bolt, Charged Strike, Lightning Strike, and Lightning Fury:
    +% Lightning Damage = 10 x (Lightning Bolt.blvl + Charged Strike.blvl + Lightning Strike.blvl + Lightning Fury.blvl)

Charged Strike

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Adds Lightning Damage to a regular Attack which release a number of Charged Bolts with the same Lightning Damage in the direction of the attack.
  • While the "hit part" of this Skill relies on a successful hit check to apply its damage, the emitted bolts will always get released and cannot be blocked.
  • Can only be used with the Weapon types Javelin and Spear.
  • The number of bolts emitted increases every 5 Skill Levels (slvl), starting with 3 at Skill Level 1:
    # of Bolts = 3 + (slvl / 5)
  • The bolts of lightning can "shotgun", meaning multiple bolts can hit the same target. The amount of bolts that will hit a target will depend on the target size:
    • Bolts will not hit size 1 targets.
    • A size 3 target will usually get hit by every bolt.
    • The number of bolts hitting a size 2 target depend on the attack angle.
  • These factors in mind, it generally is best to attack a target that is at the 12, 3, 6 or 9 o'clock position from your Amazon.
  • The calculation for the added base Lightning Damage (before Synergies) depends on the Skill Level (slvl). While the minimum Lightning Damage will always stay 1, the maximum damage scales with these formulas:

slvl 1-8:
slvl 9-16:
slvl 17-22:
slvl 23-28:
slvl >28:

base Lightning Damage = 18 + (12 x slvl)
base Lightning Damage = (16 x slvl) -14
base Lightning Damage = (20 x slvl) - 78
base Lightning Damage = (24 x slvl) - 166
base Lightning Damage = (28 x slvl) - 278

  • Synergy bonuses don't increase the minimum Lightning Damage.
  • Synergies apply the maximum Lightning Damage as a single multiplier. To calculate the +% Lightning Damage you have to sum up the base Levels (blvl) of Power Strike, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Strike, and Lightning Fury:
    +% Lightning Damage = 10 x (Power Strike.blvl + Lightning Bolt.blvl + Lightning Strike.blvl + Lightning Fury.blvl)

Lightning Strike

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Can only be used with the Weapon types Javelin and Spear.
  • Adds Lightning Damage to the regular Attack which is released as a chaining Lightning beam after initial target.
  • While the "hit part" of this Skill relies on a successful hit check to apply its damage, the emitted lightning beam will always get released and cannot be blocked.
  • The released lightning beam will only chain to targets in a 13 1/3 yard radius. If no target is in range, the Lightning beam will travel off-screen.
  • Lightning Strike produces "Next Hit Delay". If a monster is hit by this Skill, it cannot be hit again for 4 Frames (0.16 seconds). If the only target for a chain is in Next Hit Delay, the Lightning beam will go off-screen instead.
  • +x% Lightning Skill Damage is applied to all chains created by this Skill.
  • The amount of maximum chains scales with the Skill Level (slvl):
    # of Chains = 1 + slvl
  • The calculation for the added base Lightning Damage (before Synergies) depends on the Skill Level (slvl). While the minimum Lightning Damage will always stay 1, the maximum damage scales with these formulas:

slvl 1-8:
slvl 9-16:
slvl 17-22:
slvl 23-28:
slvl >28:

base Lightning Damage = (20 x slvl) - 105
base Lightning Damage = (25 x slvl) - 215
base Lightning Damage = (30 x slvl) - 355

  • Synergy bonuses don't increase the minimum Lightning Damage.
  • Synergies apply the maximum Lightning Damage as a single multiplier. To calculate the +% Lightning Damage you have to sum up the base Levels (blvl) of Power Strike, Lightning Bolt, Charged Strike, and Lightning Fury:
  • +% Lightning Damage = 8 x (Power Strike.blvl + Lightning Bolt.blvl + Charged Strike.blvl + Lightning Fury.blvl)

Poison Javelin

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Poison Damage is added to a thrown Javelin, which releases a poison cloud in its path, using the same Poison Damage.
  • The damage is determined upon using the Skill.

Lightning Bolt

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Adds Lightning Damage and converts 75% of the Javelin's Physical Damage into Lightning Damage.
  • The minimum Lightning Damage is not affected by Synergies.
  • Everything except the following Affixes are applied to this Skill:
    • + Magic Damage
    • + Fire Damage
    • + Cold Damage and length
    • + Poison Damage and length
    • % Life or Mana stolen per hit
    • Chance to Cast on Attack
    • Prevent Monster Heal
  • The +% Lightning Damage from items like Griffon's Eye are only applied to the Skill's Lightning Damage. Lightning Damage added from other sources do not get amplified.
  • Projectiles bypass the hit-check and can't be blocked.

Plague Javelin

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Work in Progress

Lightning Fury

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Lightning Damage is added to the Javelin.
  • Lightning Bolts are released upon impact or expiry, aimed at targets within 10 yards. While the maximum of Lightning Bolts released scales with the Skill Level (slvl), the number of actually released Lightning Bolts depends on the target number within the radius.
  • A target can be hit by multiple Lightning Bolts of a single use.
  • Pierce can increase the potential damage output to the extreme. A Skill Level 39 Lightning Fury theoretically can lead to up to 200 Lightning Bolts: to reach this, the initially thrown target needs to pierce 4 times and hit the maximum of 5 targets, while 40 targets are in the 10 yards radius.
  • The minimum Lightning Damage is not affected by Synergies.

Passive and Magic

Inner Sight

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Cast Rate.
  • The Defense Rating of every cursable enemy will be reduced in a radius of 13 1/3 yards around your Character.
  • The Reduction is applied before a unique monster's Stone Skin, but before any +% Defense is applied.
  • The Hit Chance, displayed in the Character Screen, will not account for a monster's reduced Defense Rating.
  • When a higher or equal Skill Level Inner Sight than an already applied version is cast, the new Inner Sight will overwrite the old one. Lower Skill Levels of Inner Sight will not have any effect.
  • Can be applied together with Slow Missiles and another Curse.
  • The Duration scales with the Skill Level (slvl):
    Duration = 4 + (4 x slvl)
  • The Defense reduction scaling is determined by the Skill Level:

slvl 1-8:

- Defense = (100 x slvl) - 1385

Slow Missiles

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Cast Rate.
  • Reduces the speed of missiles created by affected monsters by 33%. Most of these missiles will have a reduced range as they expire after a set time of travel.
  • The duration of the most frequently used Slow Missiles is applied if the Skill Level is equal or higher than an already applied version of this Skill.
  • Can be applied together with Inner Sight and another Curse.
  • The Duration scales with the Skill Level (slvl):
    Duration = 6 + (6 x slvl)

Critical Strike

  • This is a passives Skill that is active at all times.
  • Doubles the Physical Damage of Attacks when procced.
  • Applies before the conversion to a different damage type, meaning the converted damage can be doubled on these Skills:
    • Magic Arrow
    • Fire Arrow
    • Cold Arrow
    • Lightning Bolt
    • Fists of Fire
    • Berserk
    • Concentrate (with Berserk-Synergie)
    • Frenzy (with Berserk-Synergie)
  • Does not apply to the following Skills:
    • Impale
    • Dragon Talon
    • Dragon Tail
    • Dragon Flight
    • Sacrifice
    • Smite
  • The % Chance of Critical Strike scales with Skill Level (slvl) and is capped at 80%:
    min(5 + (75 x ((110 x slvl) / (slvl + 6) / 100), 80)
  • If Critical Strike (CS) is applied, Deadly Strike (DS), the Barbarian's Weapon Masteries or Claw Mastery (MCS) cannot be applied to the attack. This leads to a combined calculation for the % Chance to Critical Strike:
    • % Chance to Critical Strike from two sources:
      100 - (100 - CS) x (100 - DS) / 100
      100 - (100 - CS) x (100 - MCS) / 100
    • % Chance to Critical Strike from three sources:
      100 - (100 - CS) x (100 - DS) x (100 - CS) x (100 - MCS) / 10,000

Penetrate

  • This is a passives Skill that is active at all times.
  • Increases the Attack Rating of the Character by x%.
  • +x% Attack Rating scales with Skill Level (slvl):
    25 + (10 x slvl)
  • Penetrate gets overwritten by Blessed Aim. This is independend of their respective slvl. Meaning if you are affected by a slvl 1 Blessed Aim, even a slvl 20 Penetrate doesn't apply to your Attack Rating anymore.

Pierce

  • This is a passives Skill that is active at all times.
  • Grants a % Chance that your missiles (Arrows, Bolts, Javelins, Throwing Axes, and Throwing Knifes) will pierce an enemy.
  • To successfully pierce an enemy, the missile must go through a successful hit check first. If the missile gets blocked in the block calculation, the missile will not damage the target but still pierce through it.
  • A missile can pierce up to 4 times, hitting a total of 5 enemies.
  • If the hit check is not successful, but the piercing check is, then the projectile will visually continue to travel without dealing further harm.
  • The % Chance to Pierce scales with the Skill Level (slvl) and is capped at 100%:
    min(10 + (90 x ((110 x slvl) / (slvl + 6)) / 100), 100)
Bow and Crossbow

Cold Arrow

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Converts a percentage of Physical Damage into Cold Damage and adds additional Cold Damage and Cold length to Bow or Crossbow attacks. The conversion happens after +% Enhanced Damage, Deadly Strike or Critical Strike are applied.
  • Beyond Skill Level 49, the attack only has to go through a successful hit check. It can't be blocked anymore since 100% of the Physical Damage is converted to Cold Damage. 100% is also the cap of the conversion.
  • Added +% Cold Damage from Synergies only applies to the Cold Damage added by the Skill. Converted damage is not affected by them.
  • +% Attack Rating is only applied from other sources than the Skill itself, even though the Character Screen displays the Attack Rating including this +% value.

  • The spread of the projectiles can be influenced by the cursor placement. Being closer to your Character causes a wider spread, while having the cursor far away leads to a concentrated volley.
  • It is effected by Next Hit Delay of 4 Frames (0.16 seconds), causing it to normally only hit a target once.
  • The following Attack Modifiers only apply to the initial 2 projectiles fired:

  • When fired in a random direction, the projectile will seek a target within a search radius of 10 yards every 5 Frames (0.2 seconds). When a target is acquired (automatically or by selecting a target yourself), the projectile will follow it until it is hit, or the projectile hits an obstacle.
If a target is not in the line of sight of the Character, it can't be acquired by the projectile.
If a target dies while being acquired by the projectile, it will fly in a straight line, not hitting anything.
  • Past Skill Level (slvl) = 32, it doesn't require any Mana to be used.
  • Projectiles expire after a maximum of 128 Frames (5.12 seconds).
  • It bypasses the hit-check, but still can be blocked.
  • Pierce has no effect on this Skill, but it will not collide with targets between on the way to its acquired target.

  • Beyond Skill Level 49, the attack only has to go through a successful hit check. It can't be blocked anymore since 100% of the Physical Damage is converted to Fire Damage. 100% is also the cap of the conversion.
  • Added +% Fire Damage from Synergies only applies to the Fire Damage added by the Skill. Converted damage is not affected by them.
  • +% Attack Rating is only applied from other sources than the Skill itself, even though the Character Screen displays the Attack Rating including this +% value.

Lore & In-Game dialogue

In this section you will find the lore of the Amazons as well as the in-game dialogue she uses while travelling through Sanctuary.

Lore

The Amazons are women warriors who hail from a group of islands in the Twin Seas, near the border of the Great Ocean. Only the permanently snow-covered peak of Mount Karcheus breaks the expanses of lush forests on the islands.

The Amazon people are a relatively isolated culture. Adapting over the centuries to their tropical milieu, they have built magnificent cities in the forest canopy. These cities are an architectural phenomenon and a source of great pride to the Amazon people. They do not follow the teachings of the Zakarum, but instead practice a polytheistic religion that adheres to the strict principles of Order. Their oracles long ago predicted the Dark Exile, and they have been preparing to combat it ever since. Amazons regard the destruction of the Three Prime Evils as their destiny, ushering in a new era when mortal men and women can at long last take their rightful place in the universe, no longer merely playthings for the beings of the Outer Realms.

The Amazons are a seafaring people, one of the first to have made trade contact with both the Kingdoms of the West and with Kejhistan in the East. Their prominence in the world's trade establishment has afforded their warriors the reputation they currently enjoy as cunning strategists and skilled combatants. They are much sought after as mercenaries, being both expert soldiers as well as extremely loyal - as long as the assignment does not conflict with their strict sense of ethics.

Their pantheon of gods consists of a well-defined hierarchy, each member upholding some segment of the balance of Order. It is this strong sense of order that drives the Amazon people to achieve greatness in even the smallest of their endeavors. Their prime deity is Athulua who, with her consort, Kethryes, rules over the seasons and the weather. Under these Goddesses are a wide assortment of lesser deities, each responsible for his or her own sphere of influence among the Amazon people's daily life. The Amazons believe this pantheon is the remnant of the original inhabitants that settled the islands centuries ago. According to ancient records, they share the same names as these gods, although aspects of their personalities seem to have evolved over the centuries.

In the Amazon culture, only the women serve as warriors, their intrinsic superior dexterity and lithe body structures are better suited to combat in the dense rainforest environs of the islands. Their society is far from stratified, however, as men are responsible for any number of positions in the community, government, and clergy, as well as merchant and agricultural occupations.
