Multiple Shot Amazon Guide

Introduction

The Multiple Shot / Guided Arrow Amazon, also known as the "Multishot Bowazon", literally rains death down on the minions of Diablo. With one of the fastest Attack Speed animations and MASSIVE damage, multipleshot mows down monsters at surprising speeds! It even mows down the Prime Evils with guidedarrow which excels at single target Damage per Second (DPS).

While the build relies on big Physical Damage, it also has access to Magic Damage through magicarrow. This means that the build is effective against just about every monster type in the game, without relying on Curses or Auras. magicarrow also gives us great arrows sustain, since it doesn't use up our quantity.

If an incredibly fast-paced, screen filling, damage dealing build is your flavor, you're in the right place!

4. valkyrie
5. coldarrow

Max out the following Skills in this order:
1. pierce (Until 69%)

Damage

multipleshot*: Splits your single arrow up into a maximum of 24 arrows that spread out from the Amazon and can hit every monster on the screen. Although it doesn't deal full weapon damage, it makes up for it by drastically increasing the numbers of monsters hit per attack.

Guidedarrow*: Fires an arrow which acts like a heat seeking missile. It bends around corners and follow your target until it hits. This Skill always hits, so it's our best single target Skill especially for Bosses.

magicarrow*: Fires an arrow which converts some of your Physical Damage to Magic Damage. This gives us a tool against Physical Immune monsters. This Skill does not use any quantity of our arrows, making it ideal for picking off on stragglers.

* Increase Attack Speed Skills (IAS)

Utility

valkyrie*: Summons a powerful Spear Amazon to fight by your side. She benefits from many of the Skills in the Passive and Magic tree, and acts as a front line tank.

decoy*: Summons an immobile copy of the Amazon which cannot attack, but attracts the attention of all monsters in it's vicinity. Alongside the valkyrie it helps you to keep the Amazon out of harm's way.

dodge* / avoid* / evade*: This trio of Skills grants the Amazon a chance to Dodge based on the specific scenario. Whether standing still, moving, or attacking, you may slip out of dangerous scenarios unscathed.

slowmissiles*: This Skill illuminates monsters within its radius and slows down any projectiles they fire while affected. This can be incredibly useful in dangerous situations, especially for Hardcore.

* Faster Cast Rate Skills (FCR)
* Skills that do not utilize either FCR or IAS

Attributes

Strength
In this build we allocate enough Stat Points to Strength to equip all of our gear. Be mindful of how much Strength your gear needs and how much it provides when equipped.

Vitality
In this build we are not putting any Stat Points into Vitality because all of them are used to increase the Physical Damage of this build. This build gets enough Life from gear, buffs, and Charms.

Dexterity
In this build we allocate the majority of our Stat Points to Dexterity because it adds additional Physical Damage to our ranged attacks.

Energy
In this build we don't put any Stat Points into Energy. We cover our Mana costs by having enough "% Mana Stolen per Hit" or "Mana per Kill" from our gear.

Farming Spots

The areas below are well suited for this build to farm efficiently. While this build can also farm other areas, we’ve selected these specific areas to make the most use of the build’s strengths. Please take special note of the danger level, clear speed, item types, and Immunities that define these areas.

Anything that has a in the "Starter" column can be farmed with the Starter Variant.
While there are other Farming Spots in the game, some Builds struggle to efficiently farm those Areas. This may be because the Monsters in the Area are Immune to your primary Damage type, or the Build lacks mobility to quickly progress to its objectives.

Mercenary

Your Mercenary can serve an incredibly important role to the overall success of your build. Whether it’s serving as a front line tank, bringing a pivotal Aura to your arsenal, or employing Physical Damage to kill monsters with an Immunity to your skillset.

Act 1 Rogue Mercenary
The two Rogue options are Fire (using Fire Arrow) and Cold (using Ice Arrow). She can be equipped with a Bow, a Body Armor and a Helmet. Both options cast their respective arrow every 3-4 shots, dealing a small amount of elemental Damage. Both options also cast Inner Sight, which lowers the Defense on affected enemies. Because Ice Arrow does apply a chill effect to the target, they are the best option to bring a nominal amount of Crowd Control.

We use the Act 1 Rogue to benefit from Faith, which grants us a Fanaticism (Level 12-15). This Aura grants us Enhanced Damage and Increased Attack Speed depending on the Skill Level.

Faith

Gear
This Mercenary is only recommended with these items:

  • Weapon: Faith Great Bow
  • Body Armor: Shaftstop or Leviathan (Preferably Ethereal)
  • Helmet: Vampire Gaze (Preferably Ethereal)

The Mercenary is hard to keep alive until you have the minimum gear recommended in this guide. To help survive various scenarios, remember you can drag Healing Potions onto the portrait, or shift + 1/2/3/4 to directly feed them a Healing Potion from your belt. The Mercenary also gains bonus Resistances from Thawing Potions and Antidote Potions.

If your Mercenary dies in battle, you can revive them from any of the Mercenary NPCs in each Act. This does come with an increasing cost, capping at 50,000 Gold. So keep that in mind and decide if the Mercenary is currently worth the cost.

Playstyle

General

  • The Multishot Bowazon Ideal Standard Variant is what we like to call a "Glass Cannon". That means she's built to do the maximum amount of damage possible, which ultimately sacrifices a lot of her survivability.
  • Before you have calltoarms you have to rely on your dodge chance, and making good pathing decisions around monsters, while playing.
  • Use decoy and valkyrie help to create space for you, and draw the attention of higher threat monster types. The valkyrie can also help to focus down Boss monsters once you've swapped to guidedarrow for single target burst.
  • The Bowazon playstyle is incredibly engaging, as you need to know your enemies, your surroundings, and what can threaten you.
  • With multipleshot your primary objective is to kill monsters before they have the chance to kill you.
  • One of the issues you run into on a multipleshot Amazon is the quantity on arrows. This is where magicarrow comes into play. magicarrow does not use any Quantity, so you're able to pick off any stragglers, rather than waste additional Quantity using other Skills.
  • guidedarrow is such an important Skill for single target / Boss killing because it ALWAYS hits. guidedarrow does not calculate Chance to Hit.

Immunities

  • magicarrow deals Magic Damage, which we use when the monster is Immune to Physical.

Late Game

  • Once you have calltoarms always maintain your battleorders and battlecommand to increase your survivability as best you can.
  • Because the Amazon cannot comfortably add teleport to her kit, she has to rely on the large amount of Faster Run / Walk Speed on her gear. To maximize clear speed and overall efficiency, you want to make sure you're running forward between every 1-2 shots.
  • If you happen to leave a few stragglers from pack to pack, consider moving along until more monsters are on the screen rather than wasting time against single targets.
  • multipleshot can hit every monster on screen, so it's easy to have overlap with packs that are left behind.

Breakpoints

For more information on the mechanics involved check out our in-depth Resource: Breakpoints.

All builds rely on specific Breakpoints for effectiveness throughout the game. Meeting Breakpoints for Cast Rate, Hit Recovery, and Block Rate increases the rate of casting spells, recovering from big Damage, and block by 1 Frame per Breakpoint.

Faster Cast Rate (FCR)
We do not target a specific Cast Rate Breakpoint in this Build. We do not rely on casting Skills to deal Damage.

Increased Attack Speed (IAS)
Increased Attack Speed controls how fast our Character attacks. In this build, we aim for 92% Increased Attack Speed, which is achieved with the suggested Gear. Note: Using other weapon bases requires different amounts of Increased Attack Speed to have the same effect. Please consult the d2planner to determine what values your alternative base requires.

Attack Speed Breakpoints

Faster Hit Recovery (FHR)
We do not target a specific Hit Recovery Breakpoint in this build. It would not increase our survivability in a meaningful way.

Faster Block Rate (FBR)
We do not target a specific Block Rate Breakpoint. We do not rely on Chance to Block in this build.

Faster Run Walk (FRW)
There are no Breakpoints for Faster Run / Walk. Please refer to Run / Walk Mechanics for more details. With the recommended gear you reach 118% Faster Run / Walk.

Hardcore

For all Hardcore gameplay, your primary concern is increasing your Resistances, Damage Reduction, Chance to Block and Maximum Life. This can mean sacrificing overall power level for a more secure playstyle.

This build can become Hardcore viable with key changes to the Skills, Stat Point allocation, and items. Review the changes below before building this character, as they may differ significantly from the normal build.

Stat Point changes:

  • To use the Crown of Ages we need to put 109 Stat Points into Strength.
  • We only put 296 Stat Points into Dexterity.
  • This allows up to put 100 Stat Points into Vitality.

Item changes:

  • We use Crown of Ages for it's Faster Hit Recovery, All Resistances, Damage Reduction, and + 1 to All Skills to increase our battleorders.
  • We swap our boots to a rare option for Tri-Resistances and Faster Hit Recovery (i.e. Rare Boots).
  • Furthermore, we swap our Grand Charms to have the Vita Suffix Sharp Grand Charm of Vita.

Build Variants

Starter

Setup
A Bowazon requires some key necessities to be functional. 100% Chance to Pierce, Increased Attack Speed, High Minimum / Maximum Damage, and Cannot Be Frozen. This set up relies on Buriza-Do Kyanon Ballista supplying us with 100% Chance to Pierce and high Damage. The combination of Death's Hand and Death's Guard together with Angelic Halo Ring, Angelic Wings Amulet, and Treachery will do a lot of the heavy lifting. The charms shown represent desirable stats you will find during the leveling process.

Mercenary
The Act II Offensive Mercenary gains us access to two incredibly important Auras. might and meditation from the Insight Partizan Runeword. This allows us to ignore gear with % Mana Stolen per Hit, until we're able to create a Faith Great Bow Act 1 Mercenary.

Skills
Since Buriza-Do Kyanon Ballista gives us 100% Chance to Pierce, we have more points available for: penetrate for Attack Rating, and valkyrie to create a front line tank. We also have additional points to place in dodge and avoid for increased Dodge Chance.

Put 1 Point into each of the following Skills:
1. dodge
2. evade
3. avoid
4. valkyrie
5. coldarrow

Max out the following Skills in this order:
1. multipleshot (Until 24 Arrows is reached from total Skill Level)
2. criticalstrike
3. penetrate
4. guidedarrow
5. magicarrow

Attributes
We allocate enough Strength to wear our gear and then place the rest into Dexterity for increased damage on our Crossbow.

M'avina's Battle Hymn

Setup
While M'avina's excels as a Freezing Arrow Amazon, it actually performs quite well as a multipleshot / guidedarrow Amazon. One of the benefits is that you easily maximize your survivability and Quality of Life (QoL) stats like Life / Mana Stolen per Hit. This setup also requires a smaller investment into Jewels and chase Rares / Uniques to fully outfit.

Mercenary
We use the Act 1 Rogue to benefit from Faith, which grants us a Fanaticism (Level 12-15). This Aura grants us Enhanced Damage and Increased Attack Speed depending on the Skill Level.  We recommend the Cold version that uses Ice Arrow for a minor increase in Crowd Control.

Skills
Put 1 Point into each of the following Skills:
1. dodge
2. evade
3. avoid
4. valkyrie
5. coldarrow

Max out the following Skills in this order:
1. pierce
2. multipleshot (Until 24 Arrows is reached from total Skill Level)
3. criticalstrike
4. penetrate
5. guidedarrow
6. magicarrow

Attributes
This Variant allocates enough points into Strength to wear its gear and then puts the rest into Dexterity.

Standard

Setup
The epitome of a "Glass Cannon" run and gun playstyle. This build uses the fastest Attack Speed Breakpoint for Windforce at 7 Frames per attack. It has 100% Chance to Pierce and MASSIVE Damage to Demons with Laying of Hands Bramble Mitts. With 82% effective chance to crit, the majority of attacks will deal double damage, drastically increasing clear speed.

1. pierce (Until 69%)
2. multipleshot (Until 24 Arrows is reached from total Skill Level)
3. criticalstrike
4. penetrate
5. guidedarrow
6. magicarrow

Attributes
We allocate enough points into Strength to wear our gear and put the rest of our points into Dexterity.

Hardcore

Setup
To make the Ideal Standard build viable for Hardcore our key gear changes are: Crown of Ages Corona for Damage Reduction, Faster Hit Recovery and All Resistances. Rare Boots like Wraith Greaves Heavy Boots that have Faster Run/Walk, multiple Resistances, and Faster Hit Recovery. Finally, swapping our Grand Charms for Sharp Grand Charm of Vita to bump up our maximum Life. We still hit the maximum Attack Speed Breakpoint and massive damage.

Skills
This Hardcore Variant has a greater investment into the Chance to Dodge, decoy and valkyrie. To accommodate this change we have to lose Skill Points in Penetrate, leading to a lower amount of Attack Rating. You still maintain a >73% Chance to Hit against the hardest monsters in the game, the Uber Prime Evils. Guided Arrow is not affected by reduced Attack Rating as it guarantees hits. Relying on tankier decoy and valkyrie gives you more space to maintain distance and safety against high threat monsters.

Attributes
This Variant follows the Stats Point allocation of the recommended build except we take 100 points from our Dexterity allocation and put them into Vitality.

Mechanics

Multipleshot

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Weapon Damage and Cold Length from gear is only 75% effective. Life and Mana stolen per hit are also affected by this reduction.
  • Shot Bolts or Arrows split up into multiple projectiles while only using 1 Quantity per use. The projectile count caps at 24. Additional Skill Points after slvl = 23 only increase the Mana costs.
  • The spread of the projectiles can be influenced by the cursor placement. Being closer to your Character causes a wider spread, while having the cursor far away leads to a concentrated volley.
  • It has a Next Hit Delay of 4 Frames (0.16 seconds), causing it to normally only hit a target once.
  • The following Attack Modifiers only apply to the initial 2 projectiles fired:
    • Crushing Blow
    • Open Wounds
    • Chance to Cast on Striking
    • Hit Blinds Target
    • Hit Causes Monster to Flee
    • Freezes Target
    • Knockback
    • Slows Target

Magic Arrow

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Minimum and Maximum Physical Damage equal to the Skill Level (sLVL) is added to the attack before +% Enhanced Damage is applied, and then converting a % of the total Physical Damage into Magic Damage.
The conversion to Magic Damage after the potential Physical Damage is calculated, but before the Magic Resist of the target. The % Conversion rate is equal to its sLVL.
  • While a quiver of Bolts or Arrows is required, the Quantity of them is not reduced when using Magic Arrow.

guidedarrow

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • When fired in a random direction, the projectile seeks a target within a search radius of 10 yards every 5 Frames (0.2 seconds). When a target is acquired (automatically or by selecting a target yourself), the projectile follows it until it is hit, or the projectile hits an obstacle. If a target is not in the line of sight of the Character, it can't be acquired by the projectile. If a target dies while being acquired by the projectile, it flies in a straight line, not hitting anything.
  • Past Skill Level (slvl) = 32, it doesn't require any Mana to be used.
  • Projectiles expire after a maximum of 128 Frames (5.12 seconds).
  • It bypasses the hit-check, but still can be blocked.
  • Pierce has no effect on this Skill, but it doesn't collide with targets between on the way to its acquired target.

evade / dodge / avoid

  • Gives a chance to Dodge a specific attack based on the circumstances described in the Skill. This causes the attack to miss.
    • The Chance to Dodge is calculated after Chance to Hit and Chance to Block.
  • Dodging interrupts other animations including attacking and using Skills.
  • Dodging animation speed is increased by Faith's Fanaticism Aura and decreased by effects which slow down your Character except decrepify.
  • The default length of the animation is 8 Frames = .32 seconds.
  • You can become trapped in a Dodge animation cycle, meaning you successfully dodge during or directly after the animation ends. In situations like this, it may be better to Save and Exit rather than trying to fight your way out.

pierce

  • This is a passive Skill that is active at all times.
  • Grants a % Chance that your missiles (Arrows, Bolts, Javelins, Throwing Axes, and Throwing Knifes) pierce an enemy.
  • To successfully pierce an enemy, the missile must go through a successful hit check first. If the missile gets blocked in the block calculation, the missile doesn't damage the target but still pierce through it.
  • A missile can pierce up to 4 times, hitting a total of 5 enemies.
  • If the hit check is not successful, but the piercing check is, then the projectile visually continues to travel without dealing further harm.
  • The % Chance to Pierce scales with the Skill Level (sLVL) and is capped at 100%: min(10 + (90 x ((110 x sLVL) / (sLVL + 6)) / 100), 100)

Summary

  • This build is a "Glass Cannon"! Make sure to know your surroundings, and use your tanks to open space for maneuvering. Your main focus is to keep your distance from threats!
  • Your projectiles piercing multiplies your total DPS significantly, make sure to line up your targets to maximize the hits per shot.
  • Chance to Dodge is a blessing and a curse. If you have fanaticism your animation is much faster, but before that you may get "stuck". Save and Exit!
  • magicarrow doesn't use any quantity of your Arrows! Use this if you're running low or finishing off a boss.

Guide by MacroBioBoi

It's incredibly satisfying to fill your screen with arrows, and watching Diablo's minions fall by the scores! We hope you enjoy running this high intensity Amazon build!

Good luck! In bocca al lupo!
