Lightning Fury Amazon Guide

Introduction

The Lightning Fury/Charged Strike Amazon, aka “Javazon, is the most powerful and versatile Amazon build from mid-Nightmare difficulty onwards. The Javazon excels at effortlessly plowing through densely packed mobs with her Primary Skill, Lightning Fury, while simultaneously boasting unrivaled single target damage with Charged Strike. From Cow culling to Boss melting, this build is a meat grinder. In sending Lightning bolts scattering across the screen with Lightning Fury, the Javazon also commands a high “coolness” factor.

The Javazon’s almost exclusively deals Lightning Damage with fairly insignificant Physical Damage mixed in. With Infinity equipped on your Mercenary, Lightning becomes the element with the fewest Immunity-related issues due to its Conviction Aura. This positions the Lightning Fury Amazon as a top-tier, jack-of-all-trades loot/Experience farm power house. However, because most Hell areas contain Lightning Immune monsters, farming options are limited until you have access to Infinity.

Skills

The Lightning Fury Amazon primarily puts Skill Points into the Javelin and Spear Tree.

Put 1 Skill Point into each of the following Skills:
1. Jab
2. Pierce
3. Slow Missiles

Max out the following Skills in this order:
1. Lightning Fury
2. Charged Strike
3. Lightning Strike
4. Power Strike
5. Lightning Bolt

Put additional Skill Points into Pierce if not using Razortail.

Damage

Lightning Fury* is your Density Clearing Damage Skill. Using it imbues your Javelin or Throwing Spears with Lightning Damage. Upon impact with an enemy, its Lightning splits off into multiple projectiles, seeking out nearby enemies.

Charged Strike* is your Boss/Single Target Damage Skill. Using Javelin or Spear type weapons in melee range, this Skill emits Lightning bolts which deal concentrated Lightning Damage to the initial target and targets behind it.

Jab* is your Back-up Damage Skill used when encountering Lightning Immunes you cannot break or mobs with high Lightning Resistance. Targeting a mob in melee range, this Skill causes your Character to lunge 3 "jabs" in succession with a Javelin or Spear Weapon, dealing Physical Damage.

* Increased Attack Speed Skills (IAS)

Utility

Pierce* increases % chance your projectiles have of piercing through targets to other potential targets.

Critical Strike* increases % chance to deal double Physical Damage.

Penetrate* grants Attack Rating based on Skill Level.

Dodge* provides a % chance for the Amazon to enter her “Dodge Animation” when encountering incoming melee attacks while attacking or standing still. This negates the potential damage completely, while it also roots your Amazon in place and makes her unable to perform other actions until the "Dodge Animation" is complete.

Avoid* provides a % chance for the Amazon to enter her “Dodge Animation” when encountering incoming ranged attacks and spells while attacking or standing still. This negates the potential damage completely, while it also roots your Amazon in place and makes her unable to perform other actions until the "Dodge Animation" is complete.

Evade* provides a % chance for the Amazon to enter her “Dodge Animation” when encountering incoming melee or ranged attacks and spells while walking or running. This negates the potential damage completely, while it also roots your Amazon in place and makes her unable to perform other actions until the "Dodge Animation" is complete.

Decoy* creates a replica of your Amazon with increased health in the location of your cursor. Remains in one spot, drawing monster attacks/abilities until it is destroyed or expires.

Valkyrie* creates a Valkyrie Warrior which will fight by your side, mainly serving to tank damage.

Slow Missiles* illuminates nearby enemies and slows ranged enemies' attacks/projectiles.

* Faster Cast Rate Skills (FCR)
* Skills that do NOT utilize either FCR or IAS

Attributes

Strength
In this build, we allocate enough Stat Points to Strength to equip all of our gear. Be mindful of how much Strength your gear needs and how much it provides when equipped. If the gear piece with the highest Strength requirement also provides you with additional Strength, you can use the Strength bug to equip that item. Check out the Mechanics Section below for details.

Vitality
After you put your Stat Points into Strength and Dexterity, make sure to check if it is recommended to put Stat Points into Energy. Meet the suggested amount of Energy and put any remaining Stat Points into Vitality.

Dexterity
In this build, we allocate enough Dexterity to equip all of our gear. Be mindful of how much Dexterity your gear needs and how much it provides when equipped.

Energy
In this build, we don't put any Stat Points into Energy. We cover our Mana costs by having enough % Mana stolen per hit and/or Mana after each Kill from our gear, using Mana Potions, or by swapping to Phoenix for its Redemption Aura.

Gear Options

While every Stat in the Desirable Stats column is useful for this build, we highlighted the Priority Stats in Teal so you can review the recommended Items and more easily identify the Most Important Stats on them.

Hover over any Item in the Item Options to see a pop-out with the full Item description.

Gear Notes: Any Items with specialized or niche uses have a superscript that refer to a Note listed here.
1) Ethereal Titan's Revenge is preferred if 1-2 back-up Titan's Revenge are available for swapping out. Upgrading this item from a Ceremonial Javelin to a Matriarchal Javelin, while not required, improves effective Leech from % Mana stolen per hit and % Life stolen per hit stats on gear; it also provides a minor Physical Damage boost.
2) Use a Lower Resist Charge Wand on Weapon-Swap to break monster Immunity to Lightning or to lower monster Resistances in general if you do not have Infinity equipped on your Mercenary.
3) Only use Wizardspike and Stormshield for swaps for safe and fast teleporting in a party with Barbarian-granted Battle Orders.

Farming Spots

The areas below are well suited for this build to farm efficiently. While this build can also farm other areas, we’ve selected these specific areas to make the most use of the build’s strengths. Please take special note of the danger level, clear speed, item types, and Immunities that define these areas.

Anything that has a ✔ in the "Starter" column can be farmed with the "Starter"-Variant below.
While there are other Farming Spots in the game, some Builds struggle to efficiently farm those Areas. This may be because the Monsters in the Area are Immune to your primary Damage type, or the Build lacks mobility to quickly progress to its objectives.

Mercenary

Your Mercenary is crucial to the overall success of your build. They can serve as a front line tank, bringing a pivotal Aura to your arsenal, or employing Physical Damage to kill monsters with an Immunity to your skill set.

Act 2 Desert Mercenary
The Act 2 Desert Mercenary can be hired from Greiz.
He can be equipped with a Spear or a Polearm, a Body Armor and a Helmet.
Every Act 2 Mercenary has access to an Aura and uses Jab as his base Attack. The Aura activates once the Mercenary has engaged in combat and remains active between traveling to and from town. The Auras available are based on what difficulty you hire the Mercenary from.

Might Infinity

Infinity, Might:
We recommend the Might Aura version as it provides us with a Mercenary that can deal with enemies that are immune to our main Damage source.
Infinity provides us with a massive damage boost as it reduces the enemies Resistances and Defense from its Conviction Aura. This Aura is also capable of breaking some Immunities including Lightning Immunity (Immunities Resource).

The Mercenary is hard to keep alive until you have the minimum gear recommended in this guide. To help survive various scenarios, remember you can drag Healing Potions onto the portrait, or shift + 1/2/3/4 to directly feed them a Healing Potion from your belt. The Mercenary also gains bonus Resistances from Thawing Potions and Antidote Potions.

If your Mercenary dies in battle, you can revive them from any of the Mercenary NPCs in each Act for an increasing cost, capping at 50,000 Gold. Keep that in mind, especially in the early game, when deciding if reviving the Mercenary is currently worth the cost.

Playstyle

General:

  • If skilled, cast Valkyrie anywhere outside of town, and then run to the Farming Spot of your choosing. Recast as necessary for it to remain by your side or to draw monster aggro.
  • Gather/group nearby monsters as much as possible to maximize the effectiveness of Lightning Fury.
  • Cast Decoy and/or Slow Missiles when faced with dangerous ranged enemies.

For High Density Farming:

  • Deploy Lightning Fury on mob density of 10+ monsters or Elite Packs to thin out your surroundings. Continue to use Lightning Fury until only a couple of stragglers are left. If the stragglers are high value targets, finish them off with Charged Strike and then proceed towards fresh Elite Packs and high monster density.

For Act Bosses/Single Target Farming:

  • Make short work of high Life/value single targets such as Act Bosses by poking them down with Charged Strike. Try to position yourself in the 3, 6, 9 or 12 o’clock position to hit these isolated targets with as many Bolts as possible.

Immunities:

  • Before you have access to Infinity you should purchase a Lower Resist Charge Wand from Nightmare Drognan and equip it on your Weapon-Swap. Use Lower Resist to reduce enemies Resistances when necessary or to break Immunities. Repair this Wand as needed using Gold or the Chipped Gem + Ort Rune Horadric Cube recipe.
  • Monsters that are still Lightning Immune while affected by Lower Resist or Conviction can be killed using Jab. They can also be killed by your Mercenary. However, in many cases, skipping these mobs is best.
  • If a Unique mob happens to possess both Physical and "unbreakable" Lightning Immunity simultaneously, or is simply highly resistant to both, it is best to skip said mob.

Late-Game:

  • Start your Magic Find/Experience run by buffing yourself with Battle Command 2 times and afterwards with Battle Orders from Call to Arms. Make sure to continually refresh these buffs as soon as they expire (approx. every 2-3 minutes).
  • Use Teleport from Enigma to advance towards your Farming Spot or to jump from Elite Pack to Elite Pack while already inside it. This mobility Skill relies heavily on Faster Cast Rate! Using Teleport outpaces running despite the fact that Amazons have the worst Faster Cast Rate Breakpoints in the game.
  • Also use Teleport to reposition your Mercenary close to the enemies you are aiming for to benefit from reduced Resistances and broken Lightning Immunities from the Conviction Aura provided by his Infinity.
  • To help with your Life and Mana sustain (and if equipped), and after killing the monsters in the immediate area, you can switch to your Phoenix on Weapon-Swap to make use of its Redemption Aura on the surrounding corpses. This is optional, as you can rely on high Life/Mana stolen per Hit stats on your gear and/or Potions exclusively.
  • It is recommended to have an extra Titan's Revenge in your Horadric Cube if possible to swap them with your active set once its quantity has been depleted. This is especially important when using Ethereal Titan's Revenge, but will also save you some repair trips while using Non-Ethereal ones.
Note: They will regenerate even when reaching 0 Quantity. This wasn’t always the case!

Optimal Loot/Experience Farming Strategies:

  • The Secret Cow Level with 5-8 Players in Game - The standard Razortail 100% Chance to Pierce Javazon variant featured in this guide is designed for this farm. Lightning Fury's mechanics take full advantage of the densely-packed Hell Bovines. Felled with ease, these legions of "Cows" are a great source of Runes, Charms, Jewels, Jewelry, Gems, and Runeword Bases.
  • Arcane Sanctuary with 7-8 Players in Game - With no Lightning Immunes, "Ghost Hunting" in this Farming Spot is a highly effective strategy on this build, even for the "Starter" variant. Just as with Hell Bovines, the Specters and Super Chests found here are an incredible source of godly Runes, Charms, and Jewels.
  • The Pit with 7-8 Players in Game - The densely-packed low Life monsters in this Max Level Area are primed for slaughter by a Lightning Fury Amazon. Lightning Fury, along with 99% Faster Cast Rate, will quickly turn this place into a bombed-out cave.
  • Worldstone Keep/Throne/Baal with 3-8 Players in Game - The Javazon is an unrivaled Baal killer, making a joke out of Baal and his Waves alike. Nothing gets her to Level 99 faster. She takes full advantage of Worldstone Keep/Throne's high monster density for loot and Experience as well.

Breakpoints

For more information on the mechanics involved, check out our in-depth Resource: Breakpoints.

All builds rely on specific Breakpoints for effectiveness throughout the game. Meeting Breakpoints for Cast Rate, Hit Recovery, and Block Rate increases the rate of casting spells, recovering from big Damage, and block by 1 Frame per Breakpoint.

Faster Cast Rate (FCR)
Faster Cast Rate controls how fast our Javazon casts Spells. In this build we aim for 68% Faster Cast Rate for Enigma Teleport cast speed, which is achieved with the suggested gear.
Warning: You might not care about FCR
We do not rely on spells to deal damage. FCR only helps Enigma Teleport cast speed on this build! If you do not have Enigma equipped, FCR is pointless here!

Cast Rate Breakpoints

Increased Attack Speed (IAS)
Increased Attack Speed controls how fast our Lightning Fury Amazon attacks using her Lightning Fury, Charged Strike, and Jab Skills. In this build, we aim for 52% Increased Attack Speed, which is achieved with the suggested gear.

Attack Speed Breakpoints

Faster Hit Recovery (FHR)
Faster Hit Recovery controls how fast our Javazon finishes the Hit Recovery animation. In this build, we aim for 52% Faster Hit Recovery, which is achieved with Spirit alone.

Hit Recovery Breakpoints

Faster Block Rate (FBR)
We do not target a specific Block Rate Breakpoint. We do not rely on Chance to Block in the standard version of this build.

Faster Run Walk (FRW)
There are no Breakpoints for Faster Run / Walk. With the recommended gear, you reach 100% Faster Run / Walk.

Hardcore

For all Hardcore gameplay, your primary concern is increasing your Resistances, Damage Reduction, Chance to Block and Maximum Life. This can mean sacrificing overall power level for a more secure playstyle.

The Lightning Fury Amazon can become Hardcore viable with key changes to the Gear, Stat Point allocation, and Skills. Review the changes below before building this character in Hardcore, as some of these changes differ significantly from the standard version of this build.

Gear Changes:

  • Stormshield instead of Spirit: This is the best option for staying alive. The % Damage Reduction and Increased Chance of Blocking granted by Stormshield both drastically improve your survivability. If socketed with a Ber Rune, we can easily reach the 50% Damage Reduction cap in combination with Enigma or Chains of Honor. Achieving the maximum Chance to Block (75%) with Stormshield requires little investment on a Javazon, given the already high Dexterity required for her Weapon.
  • Arachnid Mesh instead of Razortail: In helping to achieve the 48% Faster Cast Rate Breakpoint, this change will allow us to maintain decent mobility on our Javazon. This results in a loss of % Chance to Pierce, however.
  • Thundergod's Vigor (Swap): Swap your Belt out for Thundergod's Vigor when farming Worldstone Keep or "Teleporting" to the Throne of Destruction to avoid getting destroyed by Burning Souls that often spawn there. Loss of a Teleport Faster Cast Rate Breakpoint or % Chance to Pierce is worth it in these scenarios. Additionally, Thundergod's Vigor grants +3 to Lightning Fury, increasing your raw damage output.
  • Stacking Resistances: If possible, and when necessary, make sure your Fire/Light/and Cold Resistances ("Res") are stacked beyond their default maximum values of 75 each (175 total Resistances in Hell) to guard against Elite Monsters with Conviction Aura. Stacking these Resistances 85 past their 75 default maximum (260 total Resistance) completely negates the Conviction Aura of any enemy. When choosing to stack Resistances, keep in mind the primary damage type(s) of the monsters in the area you want to farm. High X Resist +x% or All Resistances +x granting Grand and Small Charms can shore up your Resistances for this purpose. Resistances provided by Boots or Jewelry also help. Chains of Honor is a great Body Armor option for stacking Resistances on this build; however, this option will reduce your mobility due to the loss of Enigma Teleport.
  • Faster Hit Recovery: If possible, aim for at least the 20 or 32% Faster Hit Recovery Breakpoints with Charms and/or Boots to make up for losing Spirit. Faster Hit Recovery is not as important when going for maximum Chance to Block (75%). We mainly rely on the 27% Faster Block Rate Breakpoint attained by Stormshield instead.

Stat Point Changes:

  • Allocate enough Stat Points into Strength to wear Stormshield using the Strength bug explained in the Mechanics Section below.
  • Allocate enough Stat Points into Dexterity to achieve maximum Chance to Block (75%) while having Stormshield equipped.
  • All remaining Stat Points into Vitality.

Skill Point Changes:

  • Skill Points into Lightning Fury Synergies such as Lightning Bolt will have to be sacrificed to improve % Chance to Pierce lost by forgoing Razortail.
  • Optional: Put 1 Skill Point each into Dodge, Avoid, and Evade to negate damage, while also putting a Skill Point into Valkyrie for an additional damage sponge. This change is not recommended if you already have strong survivability stats from gear.

See the "Hardcore" Build Variant below for additional suggestions and visuals.

Build Variants

Starter

Setup
In almost every regard, the “Starter” variant of the Lightning Fury Amazon is what you end up with by following the Amazon Leveling Guide. It provides detailed information on how and where to get these items. With these minimum gear requirements, you are able to farm the “Starter” tagged areas noted in the "Farming Spots" section above. In making the transition from Nightmare to Hell, it is important to prioritize gear with Elemental Resist +x%. For this "bare bones" build you are also looking to pad your + to Amazon Skills, achieve Cannot Be Frozen, and at minimum achieve 30% Increased Attack Speed (IAS). 50% IAS would further help, while exceeding 52% Increased Attack Speed would be the ideal. Faster/Run Walk also helps this build immensely. Beyond that, you want to acquire a Lower Resist Charge Wand to put on Weapon-Swap.

Mercenary
For the "Starter" Mercenary, your primary concern is to equip him with an Insight in any base to boost your Mana recovery. This helps with Lightning Fury's high Mana cost. In order for the Mercenary to stay alive, he will need strong Resistances and possibly some source of Life Leech and/or % Damage Reduction. Options for these stats at this point in the game include, but are not limited to, Smoke, Wormskull, Rockfleece, Undead Crown, or a Gemmed Crown socketed with Resistance-granting Runes.

Skills
Acquiring 80%+ Chance to Pierce with Pierce alone greatly increases the overall damage output of Lightning Fury. Along with maxing Lightning Fury and Charged Strike, it is suggested to put 10+ extra Skill Points into Pierce for the "Starter" build. Put any remaining Skill Points into the Synergies for these Primary Skills.

Attributes
Only allocate enough Strength and Dexterity Points to wear gear, unless you choose to go maximum Chance to Block (75%) with your Rhyme. The rest of your Stat Points should be put into Vitality for the "Starter" Build.

High Mobility/Magic Find

Setup
This variant aims for 99% Faster Cast Rate (FCR) to provide the Amazon with the highest mobility possible while using Enigma-granted Teleport. With the ability to quickly travel to and through Farming Spots such as The Pit and Throne of Destruction, the "High Mobility/Magic Find" variant specializes in efficient Magic Finding. In order to achieve the 99% FCR Breakpoint, we sacrifice some Chance to Pierce % by replacing Razortail with Arachnid Mesh. Additionally, we sacrifice an Attack Speed Breakpoint by replacing Highlord's Wrath with a +2 to Amazon Skills 9-19% FCR Crafted Caster Amulet. A 19% FCR Amulet allows use of The Stone of Jordan instead of an FCR Ring. Use Magic Find Charms instead of Harpoonist's Grand Charms to maximize odds of finding godly loot.

Mercenary
The standard Mercenary for most of the Javazon variants uses an Infinity, Fortitude, and Andariel's Visage socketed with a Ruby Jewel of Fervor.

Skills
Some Skill Points into the Lightning Fury Synergy Lightning Bolt should be sacrificed in favor of dumping Skill Points into Pierce until 80%+ Chance to Pierce is achieved to make up for loss of Razortail on this variant.

Use the Scroll Bar to see Skill Point Progression

Attributes
For this variant, extra Stat Points into Dexterity are required to make up for the loss of Razortail unless your Crafted Amulet provides enough to cover the loss. Only allocate enough Strength and Dexterity to wear your gear. Put all remaining Stat Points into Vitality.

Boss Killing

Setup
For the "Boss Killing" variant, we aim for an optimal Baal (Act Boss) and Diablo Clone killing setup. This entails increasing our -x% to Enemy Lightning Resistance stat as much as possible to maximize damage against Bosses using Charged Strike. We also prioritize +x to Javelin and Spear/Amazon/All Skill Gear while attaining 50% Increased Attack Speed. To achieve these goals, we use Thunderstroke and Griffon's Eye with a 5/5 Lightning Rainbow Facet socketed in it. The Stone of Jordan and Arachnid Mesh provide additional +x to All Skills. A Jeweler's Monarch of Deflecting socketed with 4x 5/5 Lightning Rainbow Facets would be ideal for the sole purpose Boss killing, but it is extremely rare and not required. It should be noted that this variant/general approach, along with the help of a Lower Resist Charge Wand, melts Uber Bosses as well. The exception is Uber Mephisto (see the "Ubers"-Variant for him).

Mercenary
The standard Mercenary for most of the Javazon variants uses an Infinity, Fortitude, and Andariel's Visage socketed with a Ruby Jewel of Fervor.

Skills
Charged Strike damage is the priority for the "Boss Killing" variant. Make sure to max Charged Strike and all of its Synergies first before putting more than 1 Skill Point into Pierce or any other Skills on the Passive and Magic Tree.

Use the Scroll Bar to see Skill Point Progression

Attributes
For this variant, extra Stat Points into Dexterity are required to make up for loss of Razortail and to achieve the higher requirement of Thunderstroke. Only allocate enough Strength and Dexterity to wear your gear. Put all remaining Stat Points into Vitality.

Ubers

Setup
The "Ubers" variant is designed to kill all Uber Bosses, including Uber Mephisto. This build uses Jab to apply x% Chance of Crushing Blow and x% Chance of Open Wounds from your gear to kill these quickly regenerating, high Life monsters. Gear such as, Guillaume's Face, Gore Rider, Crafted Gloves with x% Chance of Crushing Blow, and Duress are essential for this purpose. Using Attack Rating Charms and pre-buffing Enchant using Demon Limb greatly increases our chance to hit the Uber Bosses. Much of the rest of this variant's gear stacks Resistances and Damage Reduction for high survivability. The +x Lightning Absorb stat on Thundergod's Vigor is needed for Uber Mephisto. Using a Life Tap Charge Wand on Weapon-Swap and pre-buffing Fade with Treachery further improves survivability.

Mercenary
The "Ubers" variant Mercenary uses The Reaper's Toll socketed with a Ber Rune for Decrepify, Life Leech, and x% Chance of Crushing Blow. He also uses a Guillaume's Face socketed with a Cham Rune for x% Chance of Crushing Blow and Cannot Be Frozen. His Treachery provides him with high +x% Increased Attack Speed for applying Decrepify and Crushing Blow, and with Fade for survivability.
Note: The Mercenary is notoriously hard to keep alive versus Uber Bosses. Don't count on him being alive 100% of the time.

Skills
Max Jab, Critical Strike, and Penetrate to boost Jab's Attack Rating and Damage as much as possible. Max Inner Sight and use it to increase your chance to hit. Additionally, max Decoy and cast it where needed to draw monster attacks/abilities. Using Slow Missiles can be extremely helpful against the Witches in the Matron's Den or against Uber Mephisto's summons. Note: Do NOT allocate Skill Points into Dodge, Avoid, or Evade, as these Skills will negatively impact your ability to land hits and finish the Uber Bosses off.

Attributes
Put enough Stat Points into Strength to wear all of your gear, including Spirit on swap. Then allocate enough Stat Points into Dexterity to achieve maximum Chance to Block (75%). The amount of Dexterity required for this is based on your Shield and Character Level. All remaining Stat Points will be put into Vitality.

Hardcore

Setup
For the “Hardcore” mode variant, we aim for 50% Damage Reduction and maximum Chance to Block (75%) to guard against taking extreme amounts of Physical Damage. Additionally, we overcap our Resistances beyond the natural cap of 75% to keep them high or capped under the influence of hostile Conviction. For detailed information about the "Hardcore" Javazon variant gear options/changes, consult the "Hardcore" section above. In addition to the gear changes recommended in the "Hardcore" section, we also swap War Traveler from the standard version of this build in favor of Aldur's Advance for increased Fire Resistance and Life - all recommended Hardcore changes are visually displayed in the planner to the right.

Mercenary
The standard Mercenary for most of the Javazon variants uses an Infinity, Fortitude, and Andariel's Visage socketed with a Ruby Jewel of Fervor. For Hardcore, you can switch to the Holy Freeze Mercenary for additional Crowd Control and thus safety. A Defiance Mercenary may also be preferred for the Defense boost.

Skills
Some Skill Points from Lightning Fury's Synergies, such as Lightning Bolt, should be sacrificed in favor of dumping Skill Points into Pierce until 80%+ Chance to Pierce is achieved to make up for loss of Razortail on the "Hardcore" variant. For extra survivability, you can allocate 1 Skill Point each into Valkyrie, Dodge, Avoid, and Evade.

Standard

Setup
This is the "Standard" Best in Slot (BiS) Lightning Fury Amazon featured in the beginning of the guide. It is the balanced "jack-of-all-trades" version of the Javazon, capable of performing the most tasks well. This variant is the point of comparison for all other variants. Balancing solid Damage with Magic Find and mobility, it is also the ideal setup for the Javazon's best Farming Spot: The Secret Cow Level. With 100% Chance to Pierce made possible by Razortail, this build maximizes the effectiveness of Lightning Fury for slaughtering dense herds of Hell Bovines (Cows).

It is the balanced "jack-of-all-trades" version of the Javazon, capable of performing the most tasks well. This variant is the point of comparison for all other variants. It is also the ideal setup for the Lightning Fury Amazon's overall strongest Farming Spot: The Secret Cow Level. In combination with 1 Skill Point into Pierce, Razortail allows us to achieve 100% Chance to Pierce, which is perfect for shredding dense Hell Bovine herds. It also allows us to comfortably max Lightning Fury and all of its Synergies for maximum sheet damage. The rest of this setup balances damage output and mobility for optimal The Secret Cow Level clear speed and high performance nearly everywhere else.

Mechanics

Strength / Dexterity Bug

  • The Strength or Dexterity Bug refers to a state where an item "holds itself".
  • This means that you wouldn't reach the minimum requirements of the item without the added Strength and/or Dexterity of the item itself.
  • You have to follow the following steps to achieve this (Example: Stormshield):
    • Get to 126 Strength with Attributes and gear.
    • Gain 30 Strength from other sources like Jewelry or Charms to meet the requirement for Stormshield.
    • Equip Stormshield and remove the items you used to meet the requirements. It "holds itself" now.

Teleport

  • Teleport instantly moves you to a selected square on the visible screen in which you can stand. The game tries to place you within a small radius around your cursor even if it would be impeded normally.
  • Teleport is not obstructed by walls or other impediments but can fail if your cursor is not completely passed those impediments when cast. Your Mercenary teleports with you along with a Valkyrie if you have one.
  • You can “extend” the visible screen by opening UI-windows like the Inventory or the Character screen. Continuously cast Teleport and drag your mouse to the edge of your screen.
  • The Mana cost of Teleport decreases with additional Skill Levels down to 1 Mana per cast.
  • You can use “ESC” to open the menu in single player to pause the game after a Teleport to determine if you are safe.
  • Teleport cast speed is affected by the Faster Cast Rate Breakpoint that you achieve with your gear.

Lightning Fury

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Lightning Damage is added to the Javelin.
  • Lightning Bolts are released upon impact or expiry, aimed at targets within 10 yards. While the maximum of Lightning Bolts released scales with the Skill Level (slvl), the number of actually released Lightning Bolts depends on the target number within the radius.
  • A target can be hit by multiple Lightning Bolts of a single use.
  • Pierce can increase the potential damage output to the extreme. A Skill Level 39 Lightning Fury theoretically can lead to up to 200 Lightning Bolts: to reach this, the initially thrown target needs to pierce 4 times and hit the maximum of 5 targets, while 40 targets are in the 10 yards radius.
  • The minimum Lightning Damage is not affected by Synergies.

Scaling

Mana Cost

Formula

Mana Cost = 9.5 * slvl + 0.5

Lightning Damage

slvl 1-8:
slvl 9-16:
slvl 17-22:
slvl >22:

base Lightning Damage = (20 * slvl) + 20
base Lightning Damage = (30 * slvl) - 60
base Lightning Damage = (40 * slvl) - 220
base Lightning Damage = (50 * slvl) - 440

Synergies

+% Lightning Damage = 1 * (Power Strike.blvl + Lightning Bolt.blvl + Charged Strike.blvl + Lightning Strike.blvl)

Charged Strike

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Adds Lightning Damage to a regular Attack which release a number of Charged Bolts with the same Lightning Damage in the direction of the attack.
  • While the "hit part" of this Skill relies on a successful hit check to apply its damage, the emmited bolts will always get released and cannot be blocked.
  • Can only be used with the Weapon types Javelin and Spear.
  • The number of bolts emitted increases every 5 Skill Levels (slvl), starting with 3 at Skill Level 1:
    # of Bolts = 3 + (slvl / 5)
  • The bolts of lightning can "shotgun", meaning multiple bolts can hit the same target. The amount of bolts that will hit a target will depend on the target size:
    • Bolts will not hit size 1 targets.
    • A size 3 target will usually get hit by every bolt.
    • The number of bolts hitting a size 2 target depend on the attack angle.
  • These factors in mind, it generally is best to attack a target that is at the 12, 3, 6 or 9 o'clock position from your Amazon.
  • The calculation for the added base Lightning Damage (before Synergies) depends on the Skill Level (slvl). While the minimum Lightning Damage will always stay 1, the maximum damage scales with these formulas:

slvl 1-8:
slvl 9-16:
slvl 17-22:
slvl 23-28:
slvl >28:

base Lightning Damage = 18 + (12 x slvl)
base Lightning Damage = (16 x slvl) -14
base Lightning Damage = (20 x slvl) - 78
base Lightning Damage = (24 x slvl) - 166
base Lightning Damage = (28 x slvl) - 278

  • Synergy bonuses don't increase the minimum Lightning Damage.
  • Synergies apply the maximum Lightning Damage as a single multiplier. To calculate the +% Lightning Damage you have to sum up the base Levels (blvl) of Power Strike, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Strike, and Lightning Fury:
    +% Lightning Damage = 10 x (Power Strike.blvl + Lightning Bolt.blvl + Lightning Strike.blvl + Lightning Fury.blvl)

Jab

  • The speed of this Skill is based on Attack Speed.
  • Enemies targeted by this Skill will be hit by 3 consecutive hits.
  • Requires a successful hit check to apply damage.
  • Can only be used with the Weapon types Javelin and Spear.
  • Will not be interrupted by blocking, casting, hit recovery, being knocked back or stunned after the first hit has been executed.
  • Can be interrupted by Dodge or Avoid. When interrupted, the Jab sequence is stopped. The following Jab sequence will miss if you continue to attack.
  • The Mana costs increase by 0.25 with each Skill Level (slvl), starting at 2 Mana on Skill Level 1.
    Mana Cost = 1.75 + (0.25 x slvl)
  • The bonus % Attack Rating increases by 9% with each Skill Level, starting at 10% on Skill Level 1.
    +% Attack Rating = 1 + (9 x slvl)
  • The bonus % Damage increases by 3% with each Skill Level, starting at -15% on Skill Level 1.
    +% Damage = (3 x slvl) - 18

Summary

  • The Lightning Fury Amazon or "Javazon" is the strongest late-game Amazon build, destroying both high-density mobs and Bosses alike. Take advantage of high mob density areas/spawns with Lightning Fury and evaporate Bosses with Charged Strike.
  • With Lightning Damage Hell is for the taking after equipping Infinity on your Mercenary.
  • Building a Javazon requires a fine balance between Increased Attack Speed, Faster Cast Rate, -x% to Enemy Lightning Resistance, sustain, and survivability stats.
  • The Lightning Fury Amazon is arguably the #1 The Secret Cow Level farmer and the fastest Baal killer. Take advantage of these Farming Spots to get maximum value from this build.
  • Remember to Repair and/or swap out your Javelins!
